My thanks to everyone who's posted advice - genuinely much appreciated. Lots of good stuff and I realise that the whole original vs. modified/upgraded debate can only be decided by personal preference. My own preference would be to find an original car that is in such good condition that it doesn't require an engine rebuild/ suspension upgrade. I don't intend to put many miles on it - highdays and holidays only - so hopefully a really good example will handle this easily. I don't doubt that some of the popular mods are pretty good, better even, but I'm pretty sure that ultimately I'd prefer something authentic.
I have to believe that 'original' is a safer investment too - now that prices are so high I feel I can't ignore that.
Thank you all again.
Get one with an engine rebuild or talk with Dom about his engine warranty/service plan. I know some people here will poo-poo me about say the SP6 engine is a time bomb, but I've seen too many examples of engines which have a history of being good & regularly serviced going pop.I have to believe that 'original' is a safer investment too - now that prices are so high I feel I can't ignore that.
Thank you all again.
At least with the rebuild/warranty if it does go - you aren't facing a costly add-on bill.
Or if you are getting it as an investment for the future - rebuild would be a key feature anyway.
Interesting reading all the advice. I'd suggest buy the car you like enjoy it and don't worry about something you really can't control ( residuals). Based in London there are 12 electric cars on my street alone , and the number of my colleagues buying electric / hybrid is rising. So who knows what petrol cars will be worth in the future. I recently bought the orange tuscaris (hybrid) I paid God money because it was a beautiful car and the few days I've had it have been a joy. I'm sure I won't recoup the money I spent if I ever sold, but it's irrelevant. Get the one that sings out to you and enjoy it!!!!!

Mine was bought from Str8six and is in excellent condition now advertised through James Agger.. sensible interior as well. If you want to ask me anything feel free to message.
It's liquid silver with Carbon black, black and Portland highlights inside..
Saw this at burghley and agree it is in fine condition, far better than the one shmoo had on display. It's liquid silver with Carbon black, black and Portland highlights inside..
This thread needed a picture of an original Sagaris just as it left the factory, with original big ear teddy bear seats, 4.0l engine, close ratio manual box and full tvr history.
They are really special cars and a complete joy to drive. There are other more capable cars but at legal speeds there is not much with a roof that's this fun to be in
