Dear PHs

I noticed this spring on the throttle link (see pic) of my S3 and it seems that it is not functional now. Is this spring incomplete and/or installed wrongly? What is it's purpose? Thanks in advance for your replies!!

Regards, Edsj.

Here are some photos of the spring fitted correctly. It should be quite easy to fix, if yours is in the wrong position.

Welcome to the forum.
From the photo it looks like the sping maybe broken.
Perfect opportunity to delete the whole linkage assembly and take the throttle cable directly to the throttle plate with a plenum mounted bracket.
Failing that I have a spare spring if you need?

Frankly, I am baffled by that unnecessary over-complicated throttle linkage. confused
What is the purpose of that Heath Robinson set-up? Can it catch mice or something???

Thank you guys for the very useful info and warm welcome!!

My spring turns out to be broken indeed. I am afraid my engineering skills are way beyond modifying the linkage, so I gladly accept the offer of buying your spare one Alan461. How does this "brass" part come apart from the steel bracket to exchange the spring? By compressing the plastic(?) cones at the ends?

Remove circlip then compress the wedge shaped retainers on the nylon bush behind it,
this allows the spindle to be removed without removing the other nylon bush.
Pm me your address, I'll post it in return for a beer token sized donation to next years S Club gathering charity.

Top Bloke.

As it looks as though you're in the Netherlands there's another compatriot on here who is likewise.

Shame - you just missed a lot of us in NL earlier this year
