Like a little noise do we?

Don't forget the earplugs for trips longer than 10 miles. Are you getting mine? No Way.. When I am finally totally deaf I still want to hear the engine.

Is this for track or road? If for track they well exceed the noise thresholds here.

thanks for the info.guys I'm going down the reduce the heat road and getting rid of the cats and fitting silencers further down the system the idea was either get a 2nd hand pair of decat pipes or cut the ends off some old cats and fab my own basically to see if the none cat and silencers work like a few people have mentioned. Clive I might have a go at a pair of those if I can't find any... I'm not too bothered a bought the bling as its not an 'A' surface....

Cheers

Binning the cats certainly works for heat reduction. You might also find they're not too noisy - my Tamora is less boomy at motorway speeds without the cats in place.

I've been running decats for about a decade. Big improvement all round.

Thanks Dan it's always good to get another confirmation on a solution. The heat was getting to the point of spoiling the car...with a view to selling if I couldn't resolve the problem. Did you get a thread put in for the Lamba sensors?

Hi Buzz,

I just bought some pipes (similar in shape to those from Clive F) and bunged them in. My Tamora has always run a bit rich, so they were fine from the outset.

In years gone by I used to replace the cats at MoT time; I'm pretty sure they were melting the paint on the chassis rail, and that's not happening with the decats.

I've also got a gearstick heat sink, which stops my knob getting hot when it's out in the sun biggrin. Someone on here made a batch quite a few years ago.

Is your exhaust otherwise standard? I run the JP/ACT 'quiet' system and the decats are fine. They were also fine in the standard system. More pops and bangs, and the tone is a little more urgent. I also think it's a tiny bit more responsive. Not sure I'd like them coupled up to one of the noisetastic backboxes though.

Thanks for the update Dan. My system bar the back box is standard. The rear box is one of power's blue tec etc or what ever it's called. It's basically a smaller standard back box with different out lets. Which I bought for £100 2nd hand.

I think I've found a pair of second hand decat pipes so I'll get them on and try them with the standard system. I also have a pair of power small sport back boxes which I normally put on for the Le-Mans but I wouldn't run with them and the decats on....I've heard that racket and it was very intrusive ! I'll let you know when I've got them on...it'll be a while as the car is in for a re-trim in Novemeber.

Ignore the remap/chip (sorry Sascha). The Tamora runs fine with decats and no remap. Mine's been that way for about a decade.

That said, I dare say it could depend on how your car was set up in the first place. Mine's always run rich; the decats make it a bit more responsive.

Buzz: you may find the noise a bit OTT with your aftermarket backboxes. This is mine with JP/ACT system: http://s769.photobucket.com/user/Spoon_Media/media...

Especially that chip as that's for the V8

What does the chip actually do? If it were me I'd have a bespoke mapping session done, Powers chip Is £300 with personal map IRO £600, would be money well spent if you were wanting chipping

However I guess there would be no harm done running standard map.

Already having the ACT Decatted sport system (which wakes the dead) I'll be getting Doms 4.7 with the knock MBE as I here it can then reduce the bangs and quiet/smoothen the noise... this will be in the hope to make track days possible.

Have just received and fitted a pair of Clive pipes and they are a work of art stunningly gorgeous. I must admit I spent some time simply admiring there beauty. They are far to sexy to hid away. Anyway, they are now on the car with a standard exhaust and are truely exceptional. For me the perfect balanace, actually quieter on a constant throttle and then when you open her up...wow.

However, I will be removing them and placing them back in the mantle piece where they belong.

What do all you chaps running de-cats do when it comes to MOT time? Does the Tam with de-cats get through or do you have a local friendly MOT tester or do you have to re-fit the CATs to get through?

Usually use a friendly station... in saying that the last guys that did mine were adamant they do a test. However amazing after a few attempts it passed... the mech went on to say..."I don't rate who did your map" I didn't rise I just laughed and took my mot.

I recently did a idle noise decibel test using iPhone app. It peaked at 97 so hopefully tracks get seen
