Powers 4.3 - Car Insurance
Discussion
I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for car insurance. So far, Adrian Flux are coming out at £650 on <3000 miles p/a, I am 46, have >10 NCD, no points, no convictions, and the car will be stored in a secure lockup, albeit at my brothers property. Safe postcode.
The insurance will be on a 4.3 T350C.
I have nothing to benchmark this against, aside from a quote from Footman James which was significantly more. I am not sure what the 4.3 upgrade does in terms premium hikes, but I suppose anything non-standard has the potential to attract a significant premium.
I have been flirting with a TVR for about a year, and I think this could be the one!!
In the meantime, I'll call a few more companies, but any recommendations appreciated.
Pictures to follow. . . .if I buy it!

Tuscan 4.541, 13 years NCD, garaged at home in Hertfordshire
2000 mpa inc class 1 business
Insured with Manning UK for £400ish IIRC
When I considered storing it in a local council lockup, I was advised this would not load the premium other than if the postcode risk changed.
Try Henderson Taylor

....especially in cold damp weather.
I know of one experienced 4.3 T350 driver who used a tad too much right foot coming out of a roundabout, on his way to have the car serviced, and when he got out of the car in he found he had damaged every single body panel.....
And I know of a new Chimaera owner who managed to write his car off within two weeks of buying it - lost the back end coming off a roundabout.
SO if you do buy it, treat the loud pedal with a lot of discretion until the weather is dry and sunny, and you are used to the car and can test its limits off the public road. And check with the vendor that it has had a four wheel alignment in recent history - all TVRs seem to be sensitive to misaligned wheels.

MSM broker who uses policies from KGM have been good to me for the last 4 years, its always been £320-340/yr with guaranteed value, 3k miles + I keep it outside, also there is none of this nonsense about where the car has to be between certain hours of the day.
Personally I would avoid anybody who uses Equity Red Star as the underwriter. Never seen a good word written about them but many many complaints (put their name into google). Sure their policy prices are attractive but the way I look at it is its how a company deals with its claims thats most important and you won't find this out until you need to claim & then it could be too late.

Thank you for pointing out the importance of wheel alignment. This is one thing that I need to make enquiries about as to where can this checked around here. B.A. Bush can do the MGF's and TF's so will ask there next time and in town.I know of one experienced 4.3 T350 driver who used a tad too much right foot coming out of a roundabout, on his way to have the car serviced, and when he got out of the car in he found he had damaged every single body panel.....

You will probably want to get your car serviced by a TVR expert. Depends where in Lincs you are, but possibly the nearest to you, if you are in the south of the county, is Mat Smith Sportcars in Downham Market. He has all the Hunter gear for four wheel alignment and knows how to set up a TVR properly.Brithunter said:

A trip down the coast to Mat Smith wouldn't be a bad idea. His set ups are first class. A TVR is a totally different beast to any mainstream MG
Richard Eggar (REIS). £340 ish, 4.0L 2004 T350, 6K a year, stored outside, includes commuting, 46 yr old driver, max nc bonus, protected.
I find the first year of owning a performance car was the most expensive insurance wise, they get more relaxed if you haven't crashed it after a year
