Up to nearly 9k miles now and the engine is playing up.

First problem is a sort of misfire/hesitation when blipping the throttle on down changes.

Second is when giving it full throttle, the revs get somewhere between 5k and 7k and the engine dies for a split second then carries on. It's only happened half a dozen times times since I've had it but it's still worrying.

Pointless taking it back to the dealer as they're intermittent faults.

Any ideas? I can forgive the bu66er falling to bits on me but when the engine starts messing about... well.... I can't be held responsible for my actions.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Dominic,

With very little mechanical knowledge, Any diagnosis from me would be unsupported.

I can only offer my hopes that it will be sorted soon.

Can the dealer not get a laptop diagnosis from the ECU...?

My Tuscan had those little hesitations at high revs. It was also ticking over rough, trying to stall while parking and sometimes bogging down completely when trying to accelerate briskly from low revs.

Into dealers, the chap said it was "missing" when he drove it. Replaced plugs and HT leads (only 3k miles on the clock) + balance throttle pots and upped the idle. Running completely differently now with no problems for the mo.

Go back to the dealer and plug in a laptop. It'll still be under warranty and that should diagnose any problems.

This does sound like an electrical issue, the HT leads could be breaking down.

Yep agreed let the dealer get a machine on it to do some diagnosis.

Sounds to me more like wear in the throttle bodies (or possibly they just need adjusting) than anything more serious (like engine).

I don't really know my technical onions, so only speak from my own experience. And am therefore quite likely wrong.

This is quite common in engines generating lots of heat where the HT leads are near to the heat sources. Heat increases resistance (marginally) in the leads and excess heat can lead to early deteriation of the leads in general. Common symptoms are misfires within certain rev ranges, loss of power on accelerating hard i.e. a hesitation like a turbo lag, difficulty hot starting, uneven idle.
This has happened on my old Astra GTE 16V, Cerbera 4.2 and no doubt will probably occur on my T350...

Fish speaking:

I can reasonably place a gues that it's the HT leads. They don't live long in that hot engine bay, I had mine changed in the uscan and I think in the T350. New leads, plugs and a retune will give you a different car back. The speed six is a highly strung engine so like any athlete needs a bit of love to perform perfectly all the time. Mines done 9500 miles and is in need of a retune and reshiming but it's not misfireing so it will comfortably wait till 12,000.

Shood be no problem...infact I think TVR recently upgraded the HT lead spec to try to increase there life. It is very hot under there but hopefully they'll last longer.

That's a long time to wait!
You've just spent over £40,000 so can't they see you within a week!

I know what you mean but they're fully booked until then. They only have one TVR mechanic. What are they supposed to do, cancel somebody elses appointment?

Hmm... sounds like these babies might solve a problem i've been having for a while (slight hesitation at high revvs combined with a slight misfire by the sounds of it)... are they easy enough to fit yourself? Bearing in mind I'm not that practically minded!!!

Got mine yesterday, lifted the bonnet... and couldn't even find the spark plugs, let alone the distributor!!!!

Guessed they must be under the airbox but I couldn't get the allen bolts undone so I'll leave it to the dealer to do, next week.

Spoken to a few mechanics and they reckon the new leads and a set of plugs should sort it.

It's going in next Weds, I'll keep you posted.
