Hi All,

Noticed this weekend something a little odd.

When starting the car from cold its the same as any TVR, slightly lumpy idle, never stalls and all is fine after its warmed up a bit.

But, when fully warmed up, then turned off and left for a while (say hour or two), the idle is very erratic when turned back on.

Temp displays etc show car is still warm but it wants to stall, with no gas applied it will drop to 0 revs and really feel like its going to stall. After a while all is well again.

It only recently started doing this, any ideas?

Sounds like it could just need taking to your dealer and hooking up to the laptop for a tune. Had this kind of thing happen on both my TVRs. Even though the service intervals are 6000 miles, I would find that it would get out of tune around 3000 and a quick pop in to Hexham Horseless would sort things out relatively quickly.

If it helps, from what I remember, cold idle was around 600 and hot idle should be about 900-950.

we found the same - the idle would go out of tune in between services ...would be perfect after a service/adjust, and then 4-5K miles later it would start again ...its a quirk I guess wink

Cheers guys

Can I just confirm that my cold idle is perfect, it is only when turned off and restarted (after warm up) that the issue occurs.

Is this the same thing you experienced?

Thanks again

I had the same symptoms when my battery was on it's way out. It has enough charge to start the warm engine but then there is not enough power left to run the ECU for a few moments so the car runs rough for a minute or so. A new battery cured it.

Of course it could be something else!

Hmm battery makes sense in my head, I'll keep an eye on the voltages on the display.

Cheers

Might be crank sensor, my Tam used to race then die when hot started, computer identified fault. About £30 for the bit and an hour to fit & set up

Hi all.

I was wondering if a solution had been found to the hunting idle when the car was warm.

My car has always started on the button when cold or hot with no throttle applied and idles smoothly, however, recently on two occasions I have had the same experience as the OP.

Parked the car after a good run so engine was nice and warm, returned after a couple of hours and the revs were hunting and the car almost stalling.

By the time I had my laptop out and plugged in (5 mins) the idle had returned to normal and all readings were good.

Not quite sure why this happens, as i said, done it twice now and between the times it has done it ( a few weeks ) the car has run great.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Could be various things. I had an idling problem similar to you and was sorted out by rebalancing the throttle bodies, but that was just my case.
