993 Turbo 4... dullsville.

Test drove a left-hooker, 1 owner, full history, less than 30,000 pounds.

T350 far more engaging.

ok then chaps ...let me throw the question to the floor..... I want a good looking, fast, 100% reliable car with a certain amount of 'x factpr'....I have £30-40k to spend and I will only be keeping the car for 18 months or so....what would you suggest?

(100% reliable!!!!!!!! NOTHING is 100% reliable, even Porkers go wrong.)

Anyway, I was in exactly the same position before I bought the T350c. My shortlist before I chose was:

1. Used NSX
2. Used Maserati Coupe
3. Used Tuscan S

I still reckon I made the right choice. As usual with TVR it took 6 months to sort out all the little niggles but the smile it puts on my face EVERY morning when I open the garage door... well... I can forgive it anything.

Widely acknowledges as one of the greatest sports cars of all time though...

I've driven both and bought a T350 at the motorshow but I know where my money is going next...

Have you test driven a Racing Green Arden Jaguar XKR Coupe or Convertible ? Might surprise you, Up to 430 BHP and a bigger engine in development, road and track brakes, sexy body, sequential push button gearchange, superb exhaust noise, switchable traction control, switchable steering weight. You can get one of those with about 35K on the clock inside your budget. And they start out with 3 years, unlimited mileage warranty. A full bodywork converted XKR looks great, is totally - and I do mean totally - reliable and it gets as many thumbs up from fellow road users as a Tuscan. And you can drive it quickly in the wet a lot more safely than a TVR.

Arden XKR? Just a shame it's got a pedal missing from the drivers footwell. I like the 'R' Jags but come on - its not driving its just travelling!

When will they make a manual?

(All IMO by the way)

Alternatives to give a look:
-Audi RS4 (understeered avant with speed)
-Audi S4/ Volvo R/ M3 (easy to live with, no thrills)
-M5/s-type R (second hand)
-993 4S/turbo/turbo S
-Mazda RX-8 (handles like a BMW 3 coupe, 240 bhp maybe to few horses?)
-Honda S2000 (reliable as hell, driving thrills, but rather slow compared to T350, 240 bhp: 0-60=6.0secs)

If you are used to the T350, I would certainly NOT go for the Nissan 350, as it is said to be rather fast, but dull to drive! The opposite to TVRs which are rather exciting to drive and very fast!
(The Nissan is understeered at the limit!)

If I were you, I'd go for the 993 turbo, assuming you have had it with TVR. If I were me, I'd keep the T350 or swap for a Tuscan(4.0).

Hope, I could help, Greetings, Peter

Matt, just be aware the antipathy any 911 raises in general public/other drivers/out and out yobs.

I loved my 911, albeit it was only an '87 3.2, but I would never have one in Britain again. Abuse, verbal, you can safely choose to ignore, abuse, sticks & stones, tends to scratch the paintwork.
