I received this book for Christmas and must say it is one of the best guides I have read. Having been fortunate enough to tour Gaydon on a few occassions it is really good to see all the manufacturing process and product development detail on all models covered in such detail. I bought my DB9 two years ago and discovered a lot of things I didn't know about my car.

I've been thinking about changing my car this year, and keep talking to people about Aston Martin Vantages.

It's my birthday today, and I opened up one of the presents off my girlfriend to find this:

Despite intending to buy it myself at some point I haven't mentioned it to her or asked her for it, so I was fairly surprised.

When questioned she said she searched Amazon for Aston Martin books, and saw the reviews saying this was a brilliant guide for enthusiasts and buyers.

Bless her. smile
Hi Paul apologies for the delayed reply, not enough hours in the day at the moment.... Just to say I think your girlfriend is a keeper biggrin clearly she has good taste, while also being generous and appreciating the good things in life smile

Hi Grant, I bought the book back in 2011 and learnt a lot about Aston Martin and what to look out for.
I managed to purchase my first Aston in October last year (a V12 Vantage S Roadster), just back from a visit at Gaydon last week combined with a tour of Works at Newport Pagnell and a Performance Driving Course on a V12 Vantage S, fantastic couple of days! Anyway I have just ordered a new copy of your book as I have given mine to a friend who owns a Vantage N400. Looking forward to the new edition which now incudes the V12 Vantage S and a few bits on the DB11 too!
Keep up the good work! Nothing else compares to your book, so much useful info into such a compact volume, it is great!

Just received the new edition, thanks for this! Here's an image of the beast!
Unfortunately we can't use our cars in France at the moment, no fuel left at petrol stations following a union's blocade of the refineries! I should have bought a Prius! :-)

Hi Grant, I bought already 3 book (Edition 5, 7 and 11). It is a great book.

Have you thought about how you would add more detailed information about the Engin codes? And more deeply detail about this engine (Cubic capacity; Performance; Torque; Year of production; Fuel preparation; Camming; Cylinders; Valves; Compression ratio; Bore x Stroke)

Thanks for this Book!

Hi Matrix, a big thankyou for your support smile
Good to know you are hungry for as much information as possible about these beautiful cars (your own Aston looks stunning thumbup . I have tried to pack-in as much detail as possible about all aspects of the cars...... we started with 246 pages and are now at 308, the text has also had to be reduced in size in order to fit all the new models, extra data and evolutionary changes into those extra pages! coffee

All the data you mention is included e.g.......... read
{ Between the engine (V12 & V8) sections (seven pages for each) plus the individual model chapters you will find all the information you mention for all the models - [cubic capacity, compression ratios, bore / stroke, torque/bhp, firing order, configuration (variable valve timing, intakes, camshaft configuration, intake variances, spark plug specs, oil capacity and type, emissions control, origins and evolution] etc etc.). The various engine codes are detailed in the VIN section, covering everything from AM04 for the orgininal DB9 through to the AM29 featured on the 15MY+ Vanquish/Rapide S (and the AM57 from the GT12) The codes link back to each model, which is covered as above. }

But I assume you would like to go one step further and look at the various components of the engines in fine detail, I'm open to suggestions, but it is hard to see what more we could add before the guide becomes equivalent to the workshop or parts manuals on Aston's tech site. Our aim was to provide as much information as possible, but also to make the book an enjoyable read, cover to cover, with extra fine detail included in the various data and specification tables, for those that want to delve deeper. Thanks again for your support and feedback smile

Hi, I already try put this information into table but many information missing or some Engin code missing (AM01,AM02,AM03,AM06,AM12,AM13,AM17,AM18,AM19,AM20 etc..).
it would be nice to know a gradual evolution of Engines. Now the information is unordered. Moreover, they can not get anywhere, only in your book.

Hi Matrix, I'm glad our guide is the only place you can find this sort of very detailed information, we do aim to include every single piece of information that buyers and owners may need. smile

With regards to the engine numbers, the guide covers the Gaydon era - from the DB9 onwards, for example AM03 and AM06 engines you mention above were used in the original pre-Gaydon Vanquish/S. As far as we are aware we have all the main Gaydon era engine codes and their link to specific models and each car's VIN. The engine numbers do not all run in sequence as a new change is released, for example the GT12 was given the engine code AM57, but that doesn't mean that Aston have produced AM;56-55-54, etc... yet!
I hope this helps, let me know if there are other specifics I can help with, always keen to help a fellow enthusiast where possible, probably best to PM me via my profile rather than filling up this thread. Thanks again for your support smile

Im interested in buying this book, however I can't seem to find the latest edition for sale on amazon.
Is this likely to be available from good book shops?

Hi Pole, thanks for the post smile the guide sold out over Christmas and I'm currently flat out on the latest updates read (the new Vanquish S, etc), it should be with the printers this week and available in about 2 weeks.
You can pre order through the books own small website www.astonmartinreview.co.uk and it will back on Amazon shortly after it is back in stock.
What a great start to the New Year ... looking for and finding an Aston Martin cloud9

Hi m3ax, thanks for the post and may I say you have good taste in birthday gifts biggrin - I'm told stocks should be in late next week or early the week after... Updates include more detail on the GT8, Vanquish Zagato and Vanquish S, AM-RB001, V12S Performance Pack, Rapide S Shadow Edition, DB11 VIN information, additional inspection items that have come to light, etc - basically changes since the last print, which was April last year, page count now 312.
Here is a very low resolution image of the first page opener smile
