With my DB9 DVD based satnav it is just a case of ejecting the old disc and replacing it with the updated version while the ignition is in position 2.

If you're after backup discs that are equally legal, let's just say there are cheaper ways to do it...

I've just bought a Volvo (I know, I know. Life circumstances are changing radically). I get 2x free map updates so may try one of them in the Aston and see if the 2011 maps work OK

This is usually one of those things that if you need to ask, it will probably end up defeating you in techno-led frustration.
It will also likely cause the mods to get a bit sweaty.
If you have the original disc, you should be able to create a disc image (ISO) from the DVD. Google will show you how.
Once you have the ISO, you can then create an exact replica if you have a DVD burner (again, Google is your friend).
There are places on the net where ISOs can be downloaded (e.g. should you have mislaid your original media temporarily). Some of these places step over the line of what is technically legal...
A good root around Google and the various fora (AMOC, here etc) should yield all you need to know.

Guys, I think Murph was spelling it out above In other words, rip-offs for 'back- up purposes'. They don't always work though, mine don't properly or at all in Europe so I'll sort the correct Volvo ones soon. HWM quoted me £330 for the AM discs, truly absurd

SL500UK said: I tried the above.... The disc worked but there were only a few countries on the disc and if you wanted to travel in Europe it was totally useless. Sent it back for a refund and never got my money back although was told I would get my money refunded. So they are not recommended by me. I will be going down the Volvo updated disc route sometime.

The file above is for Disc C, replace 00C with 00A, 00B for the others. I'm not sure how much info is welcome on here, so if anyone wants the benefit of my recently gained knowledge, then feel free to PM me. It took me a bit of searching to be sure what I needed to do with the files, particularly as my DVD writer is in a Mac... Phil.

Is there a 2011 DVD version? Rather than the Hard Disk version mentioned above.

Shmee, might the difference be your files are for the HDD and the ones above are for the DVD satnav? I recognise the filenames above, and mine is DVD based satnav.

Phil. Sounds likely, 2011 Hard Drive version comes in the form of 2 Discs (installation instructions look pretty horrid - car on for 4 hours!). 2010 DVD version is 3 Discs.
