Aston Vs Jag - are we slipping back?

yeah, maybe thats where Lotus are going wrong...they make a car thats ok to look at, ok interior, expensive on a bhp per £ ratio, but handles fantastic, like a real drivers car should (and it does, I have driven one on track)
..so it appeals to a niche market of people who put 10/10ths driving ability above all else when looking for a new car
...thats not many people...and if you can really afford a £75K car, and you want that 10/10ths feel on track etc, you can usually afford a few cars in your fleet, you dont need to spend £75K on a compromised all rounder
for £75K I'll take mmm....a used Caterham for £20K, a 5 year old Vantage and a 5 year old Range Rover ..thats all bases covered for me

That's my thoughts Bogie. Randy is a good bloke but in the car trade, a good race driver and a massive Lotus fan. I can think why I'd buy a Jag over an Aston and certainly wouldn't put up with the look, ergo and finish of the Lotus -despite it being a good steer. Hell, The Cayman R is a better steer than the V8V but i wouldn't go back to a Cayman again, it was too accomplished.

Jags will always be Jags..and Porsche are Porsche....I do like them too, in fact I like most cars in different ways...I like riding bikes too...in fact pretty much anything with an engine in it is fun
to be honest if I really like something, I dont really care what other people think, I get what I want

This is all that needs to be said.Many people often buy an allegedly "inferior" product and yet still think they made the right choice. If they didn't, we'd all be driving round in a Nissan GTR. Or BMW 330d. Or Toyota Avensis. Or something.
The Jags offer great bang for the buck. But the XKR, in my subjective opinion, doesn't look good enough on the outside or inside. It tries too hard.
If they built something that looks like the E-type, then the boys and girls at Gaydon would rightly cack themselves. But they don't and I suspect are unlikely to.
How long Aston can continue this though is very debatable. As others have intimated, they're against time with their current range...and the signs aren't great that imminent model replacements will move the game on.
Aston Martins are one of the ultimate asperational products......Jags are not..........driving an Aston is a privilege few will experience.......driving a Jag can be experienced by anybody with £500
But if the purpose of the post is to say that AM should not sit on the success of the present range of cars then I would agree.....let's all hope the next generation of Astons are cars we aspire to.

I came from a council estate and worked smart and hard.
That alone has enabled me to buy a new S to my spec.
Not some piece of luck winning.
BTW back on topic
IIRC Aston have always lagged behind on technology and been low on performance compared to the equivalents of the time.
Might be something to do with the tractor heritage
Or the fact owners care less about outright performance and comparing the P&J to other cars
