Buyers please beware, make sure you inspect or get the car professionally and independently inspected when you buy something really shiny (and expensive):

my friend use to own a 2003 black/black Vanquish (UK registered YE03 ***) - he was unfortunate to crash it in France, badly: lost control (gearbox problem: downshifted while he was accelarating he reckons) and ended up hitting the concrete middle barrier, suspension torned, wheel flew in the air, etc. Car ended up flat on its chassis.

When my friend saw it back on sale - he jumped on the phone and called me (pics see below!!!!)

Anyways...it's back on the road and for sale in the UK! Supposely as a "upgraded" Vanquish and tons of cash spent on (wonder why!!!!)

How did your friend come to not own it after the accident? was it written off by the insurance company?

If it really was that badly crashed then it's a guaranteed write off.

Hate how the advert doesn't mention it - that kind of thing grinds my nuts!!

The crash happen on the peripherique in Paris last year - the driver from the car behind who received one of the Vanquish wheel on his roof did end up in the hospital for a couple months (thankfully he has now fully recovered).

My friend claimed the insurance and got his money back - what did the insurance do afterwards I dont know, nor do i think my friend knows. I guess once you get paid, you dont own the car anymore.

I've been informed that these cars belong to the insurance company and that they sell them "privately" to some independant car sellers.
I was about to buy such a severely damaged V8V a couple of months ago.
The car was crashed and the insurance company sold it to a Mercedes dealer who did the repairs. After that it was sold to an independant car seller who was "unaware" that the car was crashed.
No mention of the car crash on the tag and not even any downpricing!
Allways ask some official dealer for the full history of the car or ask for a complete investigation by a main dealer: it's well worth the extra.
Long story short: I blame the vendor for selling such cars and walked away. Noticed the main dealer and bought another car there.
Shortly later the car was reannounced in the lower bracket of price. It's sold now...

I thought traders were legally obliged to run an HPI check and also obliged to tell you of the findings?!

Surely for the insurance co to write it off it must be registered as a cat A, B, C or at the very least D. A HPI check should show it as such, or are insurance co's as unscrupulous as dealers?

If it was insured outside of the UK then it wouldn't show up on an HPI check.

It was UK registered, UK parked and kept and UK registered. Friend was on a business trip in France when that occured.

Good morning,

It's strange because I saw a similar car (same number plate and factory number) crashed 2 years ago, may be a coincidence.
I'm actually look around for a Vanquish then when I will have my mind made up (S or not, the year, etc...) I will arrange viewing.
Best regards

Shame really, was such a stunning car. Hopefully something can/will be done to prevent the sale of and/or make sure the proper authorities are alerted.

You do know, it's not illegal to sell a car that's been in an accident don't you??

Likewise, it's not illegal to sell a cat c or cat d car eithersmile

The company have been alerted to the fact that it is likely the vehicle has been damaged. Rather than question this assertion and request details so that they could clarify the issue, they have glossed over it. It isn't illegal to sell a damaged car but they do have a duty of care, and I presume want to be seen as reputable. The emailed response did not give that impression.

It is illegal for a dealer to sell a Category C or D car without informing the buyer if asked. Not sure they have to declare it although they generally do, but they absolutely do have to declare it if asked.

This guy has just said it's HPI clear. It shouldn't be if it's an insurance write off. Not sure how if it was owned by the insurance company that it doesn't appear on the register. Something, IMHO is amiss if you are SURE that this is the same car.

Wow, that is poor show by the seller. Might be worth mentioning this in some of the Aston Martin forums, or even GG for a wider audience?
