The car will undoubtedly be a little lighter but I suspect not sufficiently lighter for increases in performance to come from anything other than out & out power

I don't know how and I accept there are lots on here with better technical understanding of these things that may scoff at the practicalities, but I therefore don't see how it will get away with less than 600 bhp. Not at that price, bearing in mind what the competition do (F12 has over 700bhp). Also remember vanquish S had 520 bhp and it will be almost 10 yrs between that and when the new one comes out. Can they seriously get away with just 30bhp more than the vanquish S ?
Is it REALLY REALLY all about power. I bought my car because it is stunningly beautiful and more than quick enough for our lovely congested roads, oh and my ability. I'm sure in a sprint to Yeti's favourite Bingo Hall 510bhp would be sufficient. Am I missing something here. All IMHO of course confused
It wasn't a statement about a desire for more power. The phrase I used, verbatim, is 'increases in performance are unlikely to come from anything other than an increase in power'. AM are hardly at the forefront of weight cutting technology, advanced aero or amazing traction advances and/or 4wd. How else will performance be improved other than a power increase ?

Or do you think AM can launch a new car that sits at the top of their range with a price tag to match that doesn't improve on the performance of it's 10 yr old predecessor ?

Sorry Jonby I wasn't disagreeing with you wink I think what I am trying to say is "Are potential Aston owners really that interested whether their car can compete with Ferrari, Lambo et al" IMHO this BHP thing is getting well beyond most mere mortals. Only useful in "Top Trumps" biggrin

It's all about the numbers.

I'm going to guess at 550 bhp and £250,000. As the current DBS has carbon fibre panels I'd wager progression on this. I wouldn't go as far as every exterior panel but I think it will be close.

Surely all this DBS v Vanquish stuff is academic / semantics. They could have called the DBS "Vanquish". If they have a new model call Vanquish, what does that actually mean? Not much until we know what the car actually is, I'd wager. It could still just be a rehashed DB9.

They can do what they want! They released the Supercharged Vantages with 550 and then 600bhp, no factory Aston power has been seen like that for 15-20 years and no-one is any the worse for it or has ever claimed the V12s were weedy pigeons.

As mentioned, it hopefully need to be better than 520bhp or questions will be asked in Parliament (and on Top gear), but it doesn;t require 600+ to try and compete with the F720. You buy a Ferrari or an Aston for very different reasons.

A development of the new 310 car with an old school supercharger on our beloved V12 and 600+ for £400k or so would sell a good few though ad would be compared to the F720. People who can afford those cars don't care much what they do, just want one of everything.

Although they did the Zagato with the standard V12V unit so people don't complain with an Aston it seems.

Just FYI, the new Ferrari is called the F12 Berlinetta, not the F720 smile

I'll stop being pedantic now!

I don't for one moment believe those old claims. Back in the 'old' days, manufacturers routinely inflated their HP numbers. And they often measured gross HP numbers on the engine dyno rather than net as used today. Manufacturers all use a standardised net HP measurement procedure that spells out exactly how HP must be measured on the dyno....no more gaming the system.

Yes they have Young Shmee.

Sorry for being dense here, but what makes people think that car to be a 4 seater confused

I think those new pictures look awesome.

I don't know why, but for some reason that body just looks much more "Supercar" from a side view than any of the current lineup

Might have been posted elsewhere but the car was registered on 1st January as a DBS.

For what it's worth, Autocar say it's called the DBS in a story today and that the manual may be dropped.
