One click away from an Aston Enthusiasts Club eh Tony? Meanwhile in Feltham land there's a chap in Canada who's doing a good job building a e-mail chat group of DB2 owners in a sort of rough and ready. I've been in contact with him for about 3 years and in that time the chat-group has gone from half a dozen people to nearly 100! AMOC needs to do much more for it's non-UK members and also organise itself by models registers/eras or whatever. And... leave the politics out, it's a car club for heaven's sake, they're not running a multi-billion dollar organisation rolleyes Although I think some of those in red trousers have delusions that they are hehe

Although I dont own a Gaydon car I always have been on PH because it is so much more active and current, plus I have a TVR as well. In defence of AMOC I have to say that when I went along for the first time I realy did expect them to look down their noses at my lowly DB7 VV, but that was not the case at all. In 'our' region there are probably more 7's than anything else. I have to admit to not actually being a member even though I do attend some meets. The reason I wont join is very simple, IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE! Any of the other clubs I am a member of just aren't that expensive. The other reason is with the TVRCC or my Harley club we actually meet up and go for a drive somewhere. The old guys in our AMOC area just meet in a pub of an evening have some scoff and are all gone by 10.00.
Simply put it's just not good value.

Although having been a memeber of the TVRCC for 20 years that's also exactly what they do on club nights. Meet at a pub, look at the cars and chat. It's only if the RO arranges a drive to another region that there's a drive on a club night. Of course there are drives to places like Beaulieu or whatever but then the AMOC does this as well - or at least the areas I'm near do so.

Come to think of it, I have to say that the meeting up bit is usually arranged privately and
to meet up with the people you get on with best. As for readers wifes appearing in the club mag, are you mad?? Have you seen the average age of the AMOC wives or do you have some sort of strange fetish?biggrin

I think it very much depends on your Area. Down in Devon & Cornwall we do a mixture of everything. This year we have in the calendar a 2 hour countryside drive followed by lunch, a trip up to Silverstone for the Classic meet followed by and overnight stay and then a visit to Breamore House near Salisbury on the way home, our own Centenary event is at the Castle Hill Car Festival in August where we have included road rally's and hill climbs for those who want to do them (I will be promoting this more on ph as well once details are firmed up). Most of our meets include a good drive followed by something to eat and sometimes people meet up on the way or just meet at the venue. You would be very unlucky not to have a good drive of your car because they are spread all over the two counties. Funnily enough we have actually re-introduced the pub mid week meetings to see if we can entice out the 'older cars' owners.

The Club is changing and recognises the need to be more accessible to younger members who are being attracted to the marque because of the Gaydon cars but there is resistance from the 'red trouser' brigade and it will not be easy overcome. In my view the new Management team do need the support of Members to shape it for the future. Will it happen - not sure but it needs to or Tony Hall's prediction of an Aston Martin Enthusiasts Club being formed will without doubt happen.

We seem to do a pretty good job with our informal owners club & meets on here
I've contemplated a few times setting something up a bit more formal for disillusioned AMOC refuges wink but not sure there is the need or benefit? scratchchin

isnt it a bit like any organisation or club; the people that run it make it what it is

if you want to find out if its your thing, join for a year, goto some meetings/events and see if you like it, if you dont get anything out of it dont renew

personally I never got it, and there are plenty of other informal meets going on with like minded people, if you have time to fit them all in of course smile

The AMOC esp in the area's i use are fantastic...area 1 being localish....area 7 , and area 16....i do em all...the events during the summer are great , and when doing PH meets you can always find something in the area's...it's the top end so to speak....and truth be known...they need to sort it rather sooner than later or an alternative club will appear and i suspect from the PH ranks....

I hear people say AMOC membership is expensive.

How much is it, do they have various tiers or just one type of membership?

Cheers

Hi Gerry, Entrance fee £30 which includes a welcome pack. Annual membership £95 or £105 for family membership - just over a tankful of petrol wink For that you get AM News monthly (A5 sized) and AM Quarterly magazine (A4 sized) which is a glossy and carries reports on events in the Club around the world and other topics. Hope that helps

But if it does it is only available to AMOC members so see no difference between paper form or online. If everyone was prepared to take the online version then it may reduce membership cost in future but doubt that will happen for quite a few years because people do not like change.

Plus the annual publication "Aston" from the Heritage which is in my opinion an excellent publication, well worth keeping. Oh, and you now get subscribed to AML's quarterly Aston Martin glossy magazine but if you bought a new Aston from a dealer recently you may already receive that. It has to be said that AM News is probably better in electronic format but AMQ and Aston are good quality publications that are nice to receive. The concours events are always well organised and always make a decent day out - almost on a par with Hever castle wink

Well worth supporting AMOC IMO, particularly if you like regular local meets. Add in a copy of the official Aston Martin magazine (there was a free sign up sheet in the latest AMOC pack) and this great website, plus your name registered at a few dealers for any test drive tours, Gaydon tours or Millbrook drives and you will have the full set biggrin
