What an interesting topic. I am an AMOC member and very proud to have the badge on the front of my car.
I'm a Bloxhamite and it is a very active area with loads of info coming and going.
On the Forum 'The Old School'are represented by a few very lively contributors who seem to appreciate all things Aston and I have not noticed any snobbery on the AMOC Forum.
I joined AMOC when I bought my DB7V 6 years ago and was pleasantly surprised by the 'off the wall' content of the Forum---I expected stuffy Aston owners but got nutters like Russell---brilliant.
I went to the local AMOC meetings and found a very pleasant bunch of people who I now count as good friends having been on a number of locally organised tours with them.
If you own an Aston you really should join the club it has opened up a whole new world to me---Le Mans Classic soon--can't wait.

This is all true! The forum has some very intelligent and well informed people on it but also the occasional highly amusing remark, and without taking a dig at Pistonheads, they are always both intelligent and witty wobble

My wife and I went on a tour of Riems with the club last April and had a fantastic time, the dinners were a laugh a minute! Not sure where this idea that AMOC members are stuffy comes from? Dinner in the Taittenger Château with an undertaker and a dairy farmer was most entertaining biggrin

Oh and the drive down was a blast wink

Well, not everyone finds 'nutters' to be appealing. That is one factor that soured me on AMOC forum participation from the get go.

I really hope the 'AMDC' doesn't form, the AMOC has a long, distinguished and proud history and I am proud to have been a member and will be again when my subs are paid!! However, if it is as informal as it is now, then it'd be fun and almost a badge of honour - 'a driver, not just an owner'!

There's nothing to say we couldn't do the same as we do now including the AMOC forum folk with drives and run-outs, though we seem to fill our events to capacity pretty soon. Great turn-outs for Hever, Brooklands, Trinity, Wales and Molly & Rob's imminent run is full already.

Displaying and driving are two very different things, one has unlimited places, one is necessarily limited so i se why AMOC do what they do. Tough one, a mix of both suits me though I would very much like to go on a less 'urgent' tour taking in nice hotels, good food and wine and so on. With Mrs Yeti's retirement from car events after Classic LM, it looks more likely that stealing away a day or two for a blat will be my new thing. Long distance touring is over for me really frown

I too am a happy AMOC member and I enjoy driving and touring with my car. I also enjoy the concours events and the publications. People mention Hever, Brooklands, Trinity etc but I would imagine 50% of the attendees of those events were AMOC members. I don't have hard and fast stats so shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong but I certainly saw many cars with the red badge displayed on the grill.

Indeed - the red badge is on my car smile However, I mentioned those events as they were organised via PH rather than via AMOC. AMOC was irrelevant to the meets, that was all.

As soon as bought my first Aston, I couldn't wait to join 'The Club' - having had Porsches for the previous 12 years and really enjoyed the PCGB, I was really looking forward to what it had to offer.
Well what a disappointment! Unfortunately the local rep in area 9, although a smashing a very talkative chap, had, it appeared absolutely no interest in 'other' club activities outside racing his own old pre-war car.
He and his son (the assistant area rep) were quite dismissive about the modern day cars, and certainly not interested in arranging run outs or other social events that I thoroughly enjoyed and participated in with Porsche Club. There were a few DB7 owners who had actually formed it seemed their own sub-region, and again were really nice bunch - but unfortunately, though I did persevere going to a number of meetings with my wife, felt very much an outsider. It really felt that I'd bought the wrong car to be in the AMOC - so I let my membership fall by the wayside.
I was so dissallusioned with the AMOC I even stuck on a vinyl Porsche badge over the AM wings and started going back to the PCGB meets - this was a slippery slide as I ended up buying another Porsche (but of course, kept the Aston!)
It's such a shame as I really enjoy the car ownership experience, and this weekends run out with the PH - AMDC (!) reinforces my love of the car - but not the Owners Club.

My AMDC comment was tongue in cheek, but after last weekend in Wales I think it has a ring of truth. The PH predominantly Gaydon owners seem to enjoy the companionship, banter and driving the cars as they were built to be driven.

There were loads of people who had never met, laughing, chatting and enjoying the Aston experience like old friends.

When we were the 1st to arrive at our hotel, I was asked if Mr x or Mr y were part of our group. I had to say I had no clue as I only knew the attendees by their PH log in names.

We were in the bar for 2 mins before laughing with tears in our eyes with Retman and his lovely wife. Never having met them before.

I would love to see Amoc and other owners integrate but I fear there is work to be done.

Interesting hearing of these two experiences. I also went to an Area 9 meeting. Unfortunately it is the only meeting I have been home for. When I introduced myself I was wisked off to join the DB7 group. I did have a good time with them though and they do arrange their own little tours. I did stay late and ended up chatting with the area rep. There were plenty at the meeting and I didnt feel out of it. I plan to go again.

I've been planning to go to an area 9 meeting since last year but something has always cropped up.I reckon we should have a brief discussion about this at our Wirral get together and arrange to pile down in modern Aston force on the 6th of June to the next AMOC meet biggrin

Dear all

I am sorry to let you know but we have had to change the night of the Area 1 monthly meeting. I realise this is such short notice but the Onslow Arms have a band on virtually every Wednesday night now and the car park is too full to support a load of Astons.

It will now be the second Tuesday of every month and that means tonight!!!! I hope this doesnt screw up any ones plans and I really hope we see you down there.

Once again my apologies but we had little choice.

Bit of a strong exchange of views around management on the AMOC forum at the moment.

When I first joined, I was surprised to read the same narrative in AM news.

It’s a bit disconcerting for those new to AMOC. Is it healthy debate or politicking?
