CREAM FIRST, THEN JAM!!!
We are not savages
Why not just put jam on one half, and cream on the other? Then on assembly you can have it whatever way you want just by turning the scone upside down. Everyone's happy! We are not savages
Re-assembling is ok if you have a big mouth George but for the more delicately inclined a scone should be eaten as two separate halves. Besides which, that way you get double the pleasure!

Jam Scone - CREAM ON TOP
Cream is used on a scone in lieu of butter, therefore it goes on first. This is not complex. It's a question of viscosity as well... How do you propose to get thick clotted cream to spread well over runny strawberry jam? One answer is to marry your sister as you're Cornish, all other civilised places do it the correct way. Cream, then jam.

After seeing how seriously you take a mere scone, how do you go on with fish and chips? Are you one of those poncey southeners who thinks its sacrilege to have peas/gravy/curry sauce on? It's a question of viscosity as well... How do you propose to get thick clotted cream to spread well over runny strawberry jam?
