Not required. Neither is sat nav. Neither is air con. Neither are heated seats. If you want a stripped back car with no luxuries go buy a Lotus. A £200k luxury GT should have lots of stuff like that on it imo. Been available on Mercs since the mid 90s False comparisons.... I can easily turn on my lights or wipers...cannot easily heat up my bum, cool my face or read a map whilst moving. I find auto lights and wipers irritating and of virtually zero utility.

Never found satisfactory auto wipers as I always like to dictate their speed myself. But auto lights I find very useful on my DD, never thinking about turning a switch.
I understand both are on the new car

I find auto lights and wipers irritating and of virtually zero utility. Agreed, but I suppose these items are now 'expected' on higher end vehicles for some reason. They will appeal to some but others will find them a complete waste of time. Perhaps the most obvious comparison would be TT v Manual - I find it no problem at all changing gears in my BMWs but for some reason prefer the TT in the DB9

Like the Merc system, there's just a position on the light switch that says 'auto', same with the wipers. Never have to use if you wish not to.
