DB9 - OBD II Code Reader
Discussion
Yes, it's frustrating that iOS developers should be hobbled in this way. Bluetooth is the ideal tool for this kind of application and many others. Ho hum.
I peronsally do not develop on iOS, but my business partner has developed a number of apps for our business. I'm more of a Win32 kinda guy and suspect I may have a mild allergy to Apple.

I believe that WDS is the same, allowing you to read more information and change settings, but I'm not sure from which year the Vantage and DB9 switched to AMDS.
WDS is the old name for Ford's diagnostic tool. It is now called IDS and covers Mazda, Jaguar, Landrover and Ford (of course). It will only work on those models produced while under Ford's ownership. If you connect IDS to your AM and enter the last 6 didgits of the chassis number, a message appears directing you to the Ford Service website. I have not bought the AM software. I use a Launch X431 scanner that covers 30 something makes and while AM is not listed, by using Ford USA all the systems can be found. There are limited programming functions in this software. Using IDS you can program say, an ECU, in just 30 seconds and it does it all automatically. For those looking for something to do the OBDII stuff, maybe Scan Tool would be a consideration - http://www.scantool.net/
Remember the tool is only as good as the tool who is using it
