Have you got an outdoor cover for it Nick? Or a battery conditioner? Mine lives outside and these are both useful, no problems with the battery since I started using the conditioner (and remembered to turn it on at the plug socket paperbag ).
Neither

Agree, you could easily spend as much keeping an Audi RS4 going.

I'm looking for one myself and you have raised some valid points.

I was looking to spend 35-45k but now i've increased it to 45-50k, simply to get the 4.7 model. Whilst there are quite a few 35k models, I am expecting quite high running costs although depends how you are going to drive it. Driving it constantly hard will cost you a clutch and tyres more quickly.

I definitely wont buy without an AM warranty but there needs to be a balance between buying cost, expecting the running costs and having some fun! Had a 911 previously which was solid as any german car with reasonable running costs, but not expecting the Vantage to be as reliable but the 4.7 newer models sound ok to me - a lot of 4.3 issues fixed!

If you look hard enough you could probably pick up a 2007 MY which has a few updates/fixes and might be around 35k! Bargain if you ask me

Get a warranty. I just sold my V8V (last Friday) to a fellow PH'r.
He paid for the 140point check at Stratstone Wilmslow which uncovered an oil leak. The oil leak wasn't serious enough that the car couldn't be driven and did not need to be attended to straight away, however... when I asked how much it would cost to fix, the service guy quoted around £2,000. If I didn't have an extended warranty then I'd have no choice but to foot that bill!

True, but an indie would do it for half of that wink

Shows the 140pt check is always worth it though!

Very true, but that's still a thousand smackers...which gives you close to 100% ROI on the cost of the warranty. That inspection cost 350 or so quid and it offered no real diagnosis of the clutch. I know they'd need to take it apart to inspect it properly, but it does smack of day light robbery at that price!

My maths gets it closer to 33% loss based on the Indy figure Slarti me old mate wink

Agree with Yeti - I even used a Dealer for my third year service just to get that check done - the rest is history smile

I wasn't aware of any specific 4.3 issues. There were some early faults but mostly they were ironed out. You're right, it's not a Porker so you can't expect 2 yr service intervals and turnkey reliability but I've been really surprised with mine and had no show-stoppers and it's the first car I've had for over a year and not got bored of.

I'd avoid getting hung-up on 4.3 vs 4.7 and but on how the car makes you feel. From the outside you really cannot tell the difference and even inside you'd be a beard to know the difference.

Warranty? Get it checked first and then bank the £1500 a warranty costs ... to pay for the clutch that the warranty won't cover.

If a warranty costs about 1k and the work costs about 1k under warranty then that's close to 100% right? Or is that a 0% ROI (because I've just got my money back and no actual return). I need to sit down with my school maths teacher again don't I?

Indies do the 140 point check too, 3 1/2hrs worth from memory my deep-fried chum smile

If a prospective owner can stretch to a 4.7 over a 4.3 then I'm pretty sure it's worth it! Without checking, there must be late model DB9s which as much as an early DBS. I think I'd probably go for the DBS same as I'd go 4.7 over 4.3 if I could.

However, if I couldn't, I'd still be happy smile

Slarti - I usually budget £1500 for a warranty - if it covers only £1k during the year, you are still sitting on a £500 loss. Agreed, it is an insurance policy really.

As for ROI - or ROCE - yes I do believe you would actually need to cover in excess of the warranty cost before you enter that territory smile

yes

But would they have spotted the 2 miniscule paint issues ?? Not sure. Rick advised me on a warranty item last year but always advised returning to the Dealer for such work smile

That about sums it up. Buy something else. Preferably with a nice sat nav, keyless start, subwoofer and lots of gadgets. Seriously.
I had a CL600 with every extra under the sun before the Vanquish. I don’t miss a single thing the Merc had, the Aston only needs the one thing it has in spades, “the Aston driving experience”. Undbeatable.
The Aston is not only all it is cracked up to be, it exceeds it beyond my wildest dreams. Only today my daughter commented on my continued enthusiasm for the car.
But I have wanted one since I was eight so my opinion is probably a little biased.
The original comment made me chuckle. My Aston still has a cassette player in it!

As everybody else has mentioned, if you plan accordingly you can run an Aston on a budget. You must however not skip on servicing and general maintenance as the bills will start to get very big and the car will lose a lot of it's value.

I always dreamed about owning an Aston - since I was a child and to finally have one of my own is just a dream come true. Yes it can be expensive to run, yes it gets about 12mpg when you're in traffic but who cares? If you want one you should really take the plunge.

Indeed - they were small and it was a damned good spot on the dealers behalf!! All's well that ends well though.
