Recommended listening for DB9 owners planning a Top Gear-esque challenge to France.
How about;
Rob Dougan ‘Speed me towards death’ instrumental'
Craig Armstrong ‘Ruthless gravity’

CraigV12V said: I shot to France via Euro Tunnel on Friday morning as well. Caught the 11.20am train. Saw a sage green DB5 and other than one other Aston all weekend that was the last of our favourie brand I saw. Porkers and Ferraris were ten a penny.
We decided to go to Paris from Calais without using Motorways and OMG are the French country roads a lot of fun. Very little traffic, no Rozzers or camara's and everyone driving so slow it was if they were staionary i.e. very easy to overtake.
I simply parked up at hotel in Paris rather than drive around as it is bumper to bumper stuff and a bit nerve racking when you look at the state of Parisian's bumpers and came back up to Calais via motorways which did have a few camaras which I did make sure I was gong the correct speed for as I hear Le old bill in France don't forget you if they nab you at a later date. Seems most traffic in outside lane thinks circa 90 mph is the speed to be doing.
Will be doing many more trips to the continent I think. Craig, you need to post a Mikey K style route to Paris via country lanes. I would be up for a thrash down to Paris for lunch and then back again, maybe even stay over. Sounds like a PH Meet in the making??

Got a top tip if you're planning on a lunch in Paris. Excellent cuisine, reasonable prices, great location! One of my favorites. http://www.nolita-ristorante.fr/

Old Skool said: I was looking for tips not to use motorways too... ended up taking a non motorway route for the first 45mins or so and then straight motorways. Wish I had stuck to the backroads but with no working nav thought motorway would be easier. Can you remember roughly what sort of route you took and how long it was?
Sorry I cannot remember the route, did not dare take my eyes off road I used the oft critisised AM Sat Nav, the last fitted before they went Garmin and frankly she did a greata job finding a straight route avoiding toll roads / M ways. Got to get yourself a Sat Nav but be careful if it shows up French speed camara's as its now illegal to have a piece of kit that does this. Not sure how I get around it being a part of the car but a free standing bit of kit I guess would be heavily frowned on.
