Have kept my AMV8 in a garage for last three years, it sometimes smells a bit damp and if i put it away wet, it will still be wet a week later, i have started to leave the car outside on my drive now the weather is better, two things I have noticed
1, The damp smell has gone
2, I get to see the car more and i am more inclined to use it has i havn't got the hassle of getting it out of the garage anymore.

How many of you keep your car outside? any issues?

Well documented on here. O/S under a hedge/tree although that got a major trim yesterday. Don't have a garage and the wkers at the local authority so far have point blank refused to let me have one. Hey ho

There is absolutely no question in my mind that a car left outside will age significantly quicker than one keep indoors the same way a person exposed to the damaging effects of sun and wind always looks older.

My Esprit has approx 95K miles and save for the few stone chips, the paint looks as good as the day I bought it new. Same goes for my V8V which already has over 20K miles. Both cars are kept indoors except when being driven.

Mines in the garage every night, I wouldn't sleep well if it wasn't. It rarely goes out in the wet so never gets put away wet.

It's a double edged sword
My old roadster suffered from being stored outside, used daily and not being cleaned properly, it was never damp and musty smelling
In a low ventilation garage or under a cover outside it bad as the condensation collects and sits in all sorts of weird and wonderful place (just ask George H wink )
I found from experience even using a car cover indoors can be a condensation issue, not to mention damaging the paint work putting it on and removing it.
I would agree in doors, well ventilated, with no cover on is good.

We live in a block of (posh!) flats and the cars live under there.

They get dusty, but are protected from the sun, bird poo and so on, but have dry air blowing over them the whole time. Best solution I think.

Have never had my car in the garage - it stays on the drive.

It's in pretty immaculate condition - well it is now that I've cleaned it properly - for a 3 year old car.

No real problems and cheaper Insurance.

Figure that one out smile

I've got one - cost over £200 - haven't used it in over a year.

On the drive for me, mainly because the garage is full of stuff that my wife swears blind we will need once we throw it away.

A good coating of mud is a great paint preservative smile

Garage is best *IF* you've got decent ventilation and/or humidity control. Do you have a portable dehumidifier you can keep running in there? Will make a world of difference smile

My car is garaged, and I think the better for it.... But then my garage is big and very well ventilated..smile

A neighbour of mine has just bought a very similar car to mine, same year, but with a few more miles.... His car has never been garaged, his mirror stalks are corroded, all the alloy under the bonnet is furry, exposed steel fixings are rusty, and the car generally looks a little tired....

Mine on the other hand, shows none of the above deterioration, despite me making no special effort to keep alloy corrosion away.... It still looks as good as new, under the hoodsmile

So for my money, the garage wins every time....smilesmile

This is indeed the answer. Get a dehumidifier (cheap to buy and cheap to run) and a proper soft car cover to keep the dust off. Everything used to go rusty in my garage until I bought a dehumidifier. The difference in the garage environment is astonishing. I leave my car for 4 weeks at a time. When I uncover it there it is as gleaming as I left it.

mine has lived outside for a few years (under cover in winter) and in garage a few years

garage certainly keeps it cleaner and drier longer ....but do get a dehumidifier, particularly for winter ....you can get a decent one for under £100, makes the world of difference to corrosion on bikes/cars etc

Mine is definitely not cheap to run, it literally doubles our home's base electricity usage. Its a constant 450w, so about £500 per year.
