This is a lightening silver Triptronic with 1 owner and full AM main dealer history in impeccable condition way way below the manual prices.

Not as sought after as a manual, but with the exception of running costs, your downside is fairly limited, but might suffer a touch with the weight of the number of Vanquish that are out there at the moment (76 for sale AT). Subject to mileage I reckon that car should be anywhere between 90 - 110k ...just a ball park. Any higher than that I'd be tempted with a Vanquish which is Tiptronic anyway. To put the Tiptronic/Manual imbalance into perspective, right now on AT there are 15 Tiptronics and 0 manuals. If you don't care about a manual then you have plenty of choice.

On a DBS can you change an auto to a manual relatively easily and any idea on the cost? I know this can work on an original vanquish for example

No

original vanquish had an automated manual. DBS with flappies has a conventional torque converter auto.

Buy because you want one.

Personally I think they're a lovely car to look at but not particularly dynamic to drive.

Can't understand why you say not particularly dynamic to drive - what are you comparing this to?

I have driven the manual and triptronic and have to say they are both very engaging. Much more so that the DB9/Vantage.

I think there is a world of difference between "engaging" and driving experience. IMHO of course driving

Vantage is more the "drivers" car and the DBS/DB9 the superb GT. No bad choice here.

Alas my choice is based on central London roads and the yearning for my left knee to still be functional in 20 years, and given London traffic it is highly unlikely in a V12 manual!

I agree with this. There's so much else at this price that is more of an event to actually drive.
I'd have one because they look lovely but then I think than vanquish (both original and new) look better.
Manual price differential will be short lived as less and less people are that bothered about them. Frankly i think auto suits a DBS.

Mainly an SLS AMG, not a technically advanced car in itself but a far better chassis, weight distribution etc

Popped into HWM Walton a few weeks back and they had just sold a manual BDS for £125K.
Didn't check mileage I'm afraid.

Heard a few people regret selling their DBS's and buy/look to buy another.
i dont.....
Bad experience or do you just prefer the Vanquish in your profile?

Time will tell but I completely disagree. There are huge premiums for manual versions of Ferraris, Porsche decided to release a manual GT3 RS (the R) that are now trading at 200% premium, Aston gave a manual option to the GT8 because that's what customers wanted and the same goes for the next version of GT cars from Porsche, not to mention Aston bring back the manual for the V12VS. I'm happy to be corrected, but I can't think of a single example where the non manual trades above the manual. Virtually every journo you read would rather drive a manual in anger so yes, clearly people are bothered about them.

Just look at the F430 prices. Dealers were telling customers to buy the F1 and not the manual ten years ago. Erm, look at manual prices now compared to an F1...they are demanding quite a premium. I can see DBS/V12V manuals being the sought after models for quite some time to come.

I'm not denying that prices are up on manuals but I feel its a bubble and it's time limited.
I sat down with McKinsey to run through their 10 year outlook and the landscape is changing dramatically. Without going into too much detail, the market for manuals is as small as the number of cars. The market will shrink but the number of cars will mostly remain the same.

Have to admit, have never driven an SLS so cannot comment. I do recall Tiff and Jason on 5th Gear putting DBS and SLS back to back. Being well respected drivers I would think that they are better able to compare than most of us?

I think that its down to choice at the end of the day and with that in mind we are all correct biglaugh
