What do people do? We have 3 cars, my wife has 1 and I have 2 (daily + fun car).
Currently, my daily is insured on my wife's policy as an additional car (she seems to be cheaper to insure) and I insure the fun(expensive) car on my own policy to take advantage of my ncd.

Is there a better way? I know lots of posters here fun multiple vehicles. Also some of the multi car insurers won't touch Astons from what I can gather.

I use Admiral multicar for the Aston, a Z4, a CLK, my sons VXR and another sons 5 series. Worked out much cheaper than individual policies, and putting myself and my wife onto our sons cars not only brought down their premiums but also our own cars too.

If you use them just watch the renewal cos they can try to raise the premium.

have a family fleet policy with Pace Ward, underwritten by Chaucer. 3 cars and 1 motorbike, can have up to 6 of each. You need more vehicles than drivers to qualify for it

you earn NCB per driver still, risk is worked out on total value of fleet, and total number of miles each person driving

saves a ton of hassle with just 1 policy to renew each year and is much cheaper than individual insurances ...you can only drive so much after all smile

I'm an Admiral newbie Slarti me old cupcake.

They will do max 5 vehicles, must be related in some way - and you MUST be prepared to manage it rather than accepting automatic renewal.

I only do the DB9 and Karen's Beamer as they are too expensive for the 3 girls and I get a better standalone deal elsewhere.

I shall reappraise all 5 in March when they requote and I shall compare them with other quotes (5 minute job on the saved spreadsheets online) smile

As most will know this is what I kinda do although not specialist motor insurance. My main 3 (DBS, FFRR & Disco 4) through my brokerage £3300. Admiral £2000. One thing to note with Admiral; they do not give new car replacement for vehicles under 12 month old.

The trouble with Admiral is that they wont give you the NCB on all the cars unless you have built up the NCB for each car…..for example…..if you go from 2 to 3 cars then you will only have built up NCB on 2 cars and have to pay the full premium on the 3rd car
Aviva however have the attitude that if your not driving one of the cars then their risk is much lower and will mirror you NCB to the third car…..I pay

£657 for the DB9
£345 for the BMW 325 Cab
£489 for the VW Toureg

I didn't find Admiral multicar competitive for our two cars

Vantage = £435 stand alone (Bell part of Admiral group) or £570 as part of a multicar? Bonkers smile

That's true for all insurance companies though.

So, if you only have one car with full NCD, then get another car, you start on 0% NCD for that car. But, if you claim, guess what ? It affects both NCDs - hmm, funny that.

Not true......when I purchased my third car I had no 3rd policy and so had not built up my NCB......after ringing round Aviva gave me an introductory 5 years NCB because their underwriters considered that if I was driving one car then I wasn’t driving the other.....that 5 years NCB was transferable after 12 months

I'm with ClassicLine and have a fleet policy. With 8 cars it was 2k/year which seems very reasonable...

With what you've got in your fleet that seems unbelievable!
Must be the lower risks associated with being in universal exports hehe

Yes it is reasonable.....but their risk is mainly theft as you can only drive one car at a time

That's the crux of it. Only one is at risk at any one time.

Did you have to negotiate these terms, was it cheaper? i.e. underwriters considering that you are driving only one vehicle at a time.

yes Aviva spoke to their underwriters and they were happy to offer full NCB on the second policy.....after 12 months that full NCB is transferable

I thought you meant third policy?

I'm wondering whether they would allow my 5 years+ NCB on my 2nd car. Obviously i can never drive both, dont use them for work either.

Ah I see. All from Aviva. I might try them that seems reasonable, don't see the point of paying full whack for policies where you cant physically drive 2 or 3 cars at once!
