FWIW I also replaced the pads on my Vantage without releasing the brake fluid pressure through the bleed nipples without issue. However when doing the brake pads on the family S Max a few weeks later, both the Ford Workshop and the Haynes manual stated that it had been known for the seals within the ABS unit to invert sometimes if the fluid is pushed back when compressing the caliper pistons. Not saying this is the case with the AM but just thought I would mention it.

Does anyone know where to buy the rear wear sensors? I’ve found the Brembo pads as linked here before on amazon @ £166, but assuming they aren’t included?

Spoke to Aston Martin Edinburgh today, they wanted £540 to supply and fit rear pads inc sensors. **** that.

do you necessarily need to replace them if the light hasn't come on? or can they be re used?

Just want to add I picked up pads today from Rick @ BMG at an astonishingly good price in comparison to main dealer. Lovely to talk to the guy today, an absolute gent to help other owners with such a great deal.

You only need to replace the sensors if they've worn. The "low pad warning" message you get is generated when the rotor wears into the sensor. Once you get that warning, the sensor has to be replaced. If you haven't gotten that warning, the sensor should be fine.

However, the sensors get brittle over time. When brittle, they can easily break when removing them from the old pads. At that point, they need to be replaced even if they haven't been worn into.

Same quote from another dealer. Average life of rear pads given not too much exuberant braking!?

Same here, so did the pads myself in an hour or so, re-used the wires, car has only had 1 set of pads previously.

Rear wear can be more than you think as the stability control uses the rear brakes...depends how you drive I guess smile

I drive carefully - my Mercedes brake pads lasted 30000 miles. Just a ballpark figure please?

I get about 25-30k miles out of the pads and 40k ish discs. Depends as Ive had some changed as per dealer recommendation when i didnt know better and run some pads to when the indicator light came on. Probably 6-7k miles difference there, which could be a years mileages to some owners.

Thanks for above. Was told my pads were 75% worn so got them changed then thought "so there is 25% left !!" About 2 years driving for me. Oh well, I'll know next time.

Can Rick still get these at similar prices?

As Umair kindly mentioned, I can supply front and rear pads for the V8 Vantage and the DB9 upto 2012 and they are totally original .

I can offer fellow Pistonhead members the brakes at £95 + vat per set. Unfortunately the wear sensors are not available as yet, so if anyone else offers them they have just bought them from Aston Martin. Please PM if interested, [url]
