Thinking seriously about a Rapide. Anyone running one as a daily?
Anyone got a comparison (from ownership) with Bentley CGT (Speed / Supersports) Maserati GranTurismo?
Also any thoughts on depreciation (I've read previous thread) - they seem to be holding at 85ish - will they drop like a stone still? Are dealers still offering big discounts on new? Anything else to look out for?

They'll keep dropping IMO.
I suspect they'll follow a similar curve to Ferrari 612s and Maser QPs.
Most cars of this type don't really slow markedly (beyond year 1-2) on the depreciation curve until they hit 30-35k.

612 seriously good value but there is always that nagging worry about an 8k service bill or repairs !

[quote=jeremyc]wavey: Have you thought about a 612? ] Hi JC btw do you know you are famous on 'tinternet talking about the Rapide? Love the 612 - top of my list, but as this will be alongside the Moggy and potentially used in a mundane way I'm counting out a Ferrari. If i threw caution to the wind it would be an HGTS or 1:2:1.. The Rapide appeals as it will transport Tony jnr and has useful back doors - and a v12. I don't really do depreciation if I can avoid it though, so if they are going to keep dropping like rocks it's perhaps not for me...

Yes, it does look a bit like a Peugeot from the front. I hadn't made that connection before.

Not as bad as the F12 though.
The alternatives which noone seems to mention are the Jaguar XJ Supersports or the BMW M6 Gran Coupe when that arrives. That should be sensational, though in much the same price bracket as the Rapide. The XJ is the only Jag whose styling I have not come to terms with, though everything else is A1

Why would a 612 cost you 8k to service? I reckon it will be no more troublesome than an Aston, and indies will service them for sensible money.
Ref the looks, I used to hate them. But have had a few do drive bys recently and in the right colours they have superb road presence. Modern Ferraris get better with age IMO.
They're also meant to be big in the back with huge doors.
I'd certainly try one before dismissing it.

I've had two Gran Turismos: a "standard" 4.2 with auto and an S with the 4.7 440 BHP engine and semi automatic gear box. The 4.2 always felt a bit, somehow lacking and the info / entertainment / satnav was poor. It was a lovely looking thing and was mechanically good but stupid annoying things let it down. Things like the wheel nuts corroding and the Italian electrical systems that had a mind of their own. Quite an involving drive for a big GT but you really had to work it to make it rewarding.
Now the S was far more like it although that was hampered still by the lousy entertainment system. I went for the premium Bose set up, but even that was disappointing. However, the noise out the back in sport mode was just incredible and more than made up for it. The S is just that little bit sharper, quicker and better looking although the robotic manual does take some getting used to and can be a bit tiresome around town.
By the way, for what it's worth, I chose the mazzers over a Bentley continental which was a bit like driving a nice sofa around. And the only reason I didn't go for a DB9 at the time, was the space in the back. Easily enough room for adults in the Gran Turismo.
I think an S mated to a traditional auto box (post 59 plate if I recall) would make a good all rounder although have to say, for me it would be the Rapide all the way having now had the Aston experience, albeit for just a month so far.

I'm replacing a 7 series, so I'm looking for ride before handling really, but for whatever it is to be entertaining when it suits... As it's going tO get used daily, I'm counting out a 612. An old one will be trouble and a late model low miles car will drop like a stone with 8-10k miles a year...
Aston and Bentley look best options. Perhaps an older conti speed at 60k is a better option than a launch year Rapide at 85...
If I want to scare myself stupid then I can do that in the Mog.

Still a lovely car. The trouble is with the Bentley you will always know that it's really a VW Phaeton .....the engine the chasis the suspension the gearbox and most other bits are Phaeton.........and on the Wirral 90% are driven by drug dealers or footballers......not sure which is worse
