Luna, are you Shropshire based?

I lived (born Shrewsbury) that way up until 2 years ago and know that road well. Some people are complete numptys with the speed they carry!
Yup.... Oswestry area

Are you sure this was a real plod?

How can his car identify you as the driver?
I presume there was a conversation where he asked the OP to confirm his name and address, thus identifyihng himself as the driver. Otherwese very weird if either one of you just remained silent. I take it you've never been pulled by plod? wink

His car has ANPR linked to DVLA, if the name and address you give confirms the ANPR details, that's all he needs to know.

His exact words were pls step out of the car to discuss your three points. He did not ask for my licence despite my offering it. I admitted I was over the 50mph but he didn't say what speed. I apologised, he shook my hand and that was it. I've had a clean licence for 15yrs so no other incidents to compare this one to.

It will be 2weeks tomorrow since I was stopped on th A3 and I haven't received anything from the Police. I thought there was a 14 day window in which I should have received a penalty notice.
You are referring to the notice of intended prosecution which is a written notice searched upon the registered owner within 14 clear days if you are not verbally told it at the time of the offence.

If the officer was intending to report you formally you SHOULD have been cautioned and the specifics of the alleged offence pointed out and any reply noted. You SHOULD then have been told you were being reported for the consideration of prosecuting you for the offence.

Of course that's if the rules are being followed by the officer. Good luck!

Is it 14 working days or 14 days? Someone once told me 14 working days... I may have spent 4 unnecessary days opening my mail with extreme fear on a few occasions if it's not!

I was stopped this evening @ 530pm by an un-marked black Mercedes A-Class when I exceeded the 50mph limit on the Kingston By-Pass just past the Hook Under Pass on the A3. He just said it was bad luck and smiled as he awarded me 3pts. Didn't ask for ID or my license saying that the car had video equipment that did it all automatically.
Not sure if it's unlucky or just a matter of time before you get caught in the UK. As time passess it seems more and more like a police state for the motorist. I was caught on a recent trip Back to the UK (in the dead of the night on a motorway) by some new fangled contraption called an "average speed camera". Not even sure George Orwell could have com up with that, BTW that's only a step away from fining you based on your mobile phone GPS signal.

And they say England is a free country.......

If that's not sarcasm, could you expand upon that? (Genuinely interested.)

No-one said traffic car. Just unmarked plod. See them screaming up and down Chiswick High Road, Polos, Fiestas, anything, just a siren and hidden blue lights in the grille.

Jeremy, did he give you a ticket..? I believe you still have to be served with a notice of IP?

No nothing. I wasn't asked for ID, if it was my car, what speed I was doing, nada.

Hmm, most irregular. You wouldn't be asked for ID necessarily as it isn't a requirement to carry it, but you'd be asked your name and address to see if it corresponds to his ANPR data.

If it was just a scare/warning, you've no way of knowing for a long time...

Worth a repost in Speed, Plod and the Law section - full of coppers and habitual speeders who'll give you more accurate info than we can. From memory, he should have given you a ticket to sign and a receipt.

Was the officer in uniform?

I haven't seen this thread until today but the sequence of events sounds most unlike the proper procedure. It either wasn't a police officer at all or it was a police officer throwing his weight around. There's no way a car like that would be equipped with video equipment and the officer should have positively established the driver's identity.

Obviously I can't say 100% but I would be 99.5% certain he was having you on and would have been laughing about how he 'put the sts up an Aston driver' with his colleagues back at the station.

2.5 years ban is absolutely ridiculous. At least he didn't get jailed like he would in this pathetic country.

Wasn't there a Swiss bloke who got something like a $1m fine for doing 200mph on the motorway in an SLS a while back? That's a complete joke too. Especially when you think in America this guy doing 210mph+ in a Veyron got no more than a $500 fine rolleyeshttp://jalopnik.com/5311819/bugatti-veyron-tickete...

I belive in Switzerland, like certian Scandinavian countries, you are fined in relation to your earnings. Skint and speeding? No worries, have a nice day. Rich and speeding >rubs hands with glee< get ready to bend over...

Yes, it's related to earnings. I still massively disagree with it though... if anyone does the same crime, they should all get the same punishment. Just because someone is rich doesn't excuse them, but doesn't entitle the government to punish them more either imo.

Still not as pathetic as jailing people for doing high speeds as they do in this country.
