Very impressed with all this technical know how - to be honest the photos could be of a Soyuz space craft docking for all the good it would do someone as 'handless' as me .I'll resort to my usual strategy - work harder earn more money and pay somebody who knows what they are doing to sort it out !!!
-100 man points............even my Mrs could change the pads on an AstonAll very interesting BUT, my DB9 Volante was serviced by a local authorised dealer who fitted new rear pads which squealed very badly, took it back to the dealer, who charged me £156 for the privilege of putting more blue stuff (similar to copper slip) on the pads, after about 10 miles squeal returned, I then removed the pads, put a chamfer on the edges, no improvement, then I bought a new set of pads, which have the anti squeal shim fitted by the manufacturer to the pad, which the ones in my car didn't. Fitted the new pads, problem solved!! Went back to the dealer, pretty annoyed, who in fairness refunded the £156, although really I should have asked for a total refund for the pads as well. Their excuse for not fitting the shims is that the factory tell them not to, I spoke to the factory and they do not recommend the fitting of the shim. There is no good or logical reason for this, who wants a car of this quality or any other with exceedingly squeaky brakes?
I cannot see why, when AM supply the pads with the shims they then tell the dealer to throw them away, furthermore Brembo and Pagid who make the pads for Brembo must talk to each other and if they supply the shims why wouldn't they be fitted? Informed comments please.

The blue stuff is not the same as the copper based compound, it is polymer based. I was going to use it on my S but Bamford Rose advised me against it as it can attack the seals.I cannot see why, when AM supply the pads with the shims they then tell the dealer to throw them away, furthermore Brembo and Pagid who make the pads for Brembo must talk to each other and if they supply the shims why wouldn't they be fitted? You are right on the the chamfer, shims and copper slip though
