A brave post Steve as many, including me, could be quite forceful in my defence of them.

If they had still been trading, I would have them in court by now for the appalling work done to my car - their incompetence cost me no small amount of money; we're lucky to have BR and the like to sort their mistakes out.

And there have been a LOT of them, some of the stories emerging, which aren't usually told due to forum rules, would make you shudder.

I really don't know where it all went wrong for them.
Brave of you to Lewis, it takes a gentleman of character to admit that he was mistaken.

I know they no longer exist, I was on about the thread that was deleted, regarding the subject of this thread now working elsewhere smile
I don't think blackice was saying he was Rick (was he, did I miss a subtle hint?) in the thread that got pulled, just that he was like him. His other thread saying he was back has been pulled to.
Blackice is not Rick

Blackice1 is the ex service manager of Stratstones Amersham. His name is not Dick, or Jay. He used to post when he was at Amersham, and you could always get a deal on service pricing out of him.

Shame about that, it was turning in to an interesting thread. biggrin

I Hope Blackice isn’t put off from posting, he has made some genuinely informative contributions to the forum about common faults and fixes; door locks being one of them.

Thanks for posting this. There is all too often a phenomenon of the emperor's new clothes with these "specialists".

I deplore that this forum doesn't allow the names of the parties to be divulged. The whole point of an enthusiast's forum is to share information like this and prevent others falling victim to the same treatment. Oh well.
+1

I visited there a couple of times and decide based on what I saw I would not be using them
And surely a forum is exactly the place to learn about poor service and issues? frown
I moderated on s2ki.com for a while where N&S is allowed so long as it is factual, it has saved many from several renowned traders
I suspect PH don't allow to prevent any legal issues and hassle

Firstly, I would never try and rubbish any company/person without very good reason or kick anyone when they are down.
However my business partner Andy posted a thread on here a year or so about these characters trying to warn other Aston owners, as these people had utterly ruined one of our V8 Vantage engines after two attempts at rebuilding it. The result was he was insulted and rubbished by some people who have posted on this thread ironically, before the whole thread was pulled.
The work they did was absolutely shocking. I shan't elaborate as it won't achieve anything.

We then had to get Bamford Rose to do a proper job in the end (when we managed to get the car back which was literally full of old car parts etc. BR did a fantastic job as they did rebuilding our DBS which lunched its V12 as someone forgot to put some oil in it smile

Well said.

In our (my) defense, I was blinded by loyalty at the time by a very convincingly honest and competent man who turned out to be neither.

If I remember the thread, your business partner could have approached it in a different way instead of the (justified) rant he produced. I am sorry to find out he was right all along and we (I) should have been listening frown

Some of the remedial work BR have had to do on quite a few cars is truly shocking. I'm glad you got your Vantage sorted in the end.

It the semi-fictional 'Dick' now working with the very non-fiction Blackice at the 'Astons are Rubbish' Hofmanns?

This is fun biggrin

I think that what this proves is that moderation has to have a direct link to what is being discussed, much as it is on the AMOC Forum. Many issues have been sorted via this silent approach in the past, including a particular issue with a US Vanquish a few years back.

I was getting suspicious of certain issues with ...Dick but supporters or contras did not creep up significantly in the AMOC Vanquish forum which was my den there.

Hm...

Yes, one might say they performed Services on Motors in Derby. Perhaps not in that order though...

Wait. What the heck happened? This forum would never let a bad thing be said about dick not so long ago! With respect, are the astoneers here a naive bunch? Fickle? Are we going to start hearing similar horror stories about bridge mill and bamford rose before long? Sorry, don't mean to sound offensive but opinion seems to violently swung from very positive to quite the opposite.
