So then, if it weren't for the gaiter being physically attached to the knob, push down and twist would suffice for knob removal. Got it!
Errrr, but it is, so it wouldn't. If you done that you'd end up with a condition known as "Slack Knob"

To current DBS/V12V owners, is the knob very cold in winter? I can see that as the only downside to having it fitted.
Yes!

Does a DBS gear knob sit higher then the standard one on a Vantage?
Yes it does. That's the reason I went from DBS knob to V8/DB9 type. It is shorter and reduces the throw.

It does indeed and it makes the shift a lot easier on the non-twin plate clutches. The weight at the top of the knob makes for a more positive and less notchy feel to the gear change. Definitely made my old V8V nicer to drive.

Isn't a gear stick more appropriate than a gear knob? angel

Stick sounds a bit weedy whereas knob implies heft and substance. I prefer the latter obviously biggrin

A few tips on how I fitted the DBS gear knob to my 2011 V8 Vantage as it wasn't easy to find the hidden screws.
Those wily Aston Martin designers did an excellent job of hiding them. i assume that you have removed the rear parcel shelf and the aluminium trim panel behind the seat already. That's the easy bit.

Towards the rear of the armrest there is a little trim panel that you need to remove.
This little trim insert is quite tricky to remove as it is a perfect fit in the space. I needed a wide trim prizing tool and a narrow one - simultaneously. You need to be careful not to damage it.

When it comes out it looks like this:-

These are the torx screws you are interested in:-

Towards the front of the armrest there is a rubber pad that needs to be removed to get at the torx screws:-

When it comes out it looks like this - voila! torx screws. They don't need to be fully undone as there is a clamping plate below which comes out with the armrest.

You can now carefully disconnect the wiring harness plugs beneath the armrest the remove the armrest itself.
Removing the gearshift plate is fairly simple with removal of the the two visible screws and sliding the plate back and disconnecting the electrical connectors. You have to be ultra careful not to damage the leather at the front of the plate. Gearknob is released by pushing down and to the left.
Like one of the previous posts I took the assembly back to comfort of my kitchen to swop the old gearknob for the new one.
Looks great when its done!

Thanks for the write up Brian. Macpaul, wollie, where are you getting your £250-£350 knobs from? I'd be in the market at this price...

Yep, they want over a grand for a new one... That's more than 1% of the cost of a new V8 Vantage. I'm thinking I quite like my leather one smile

I got a used one which only had a few minor scratches from a ring finger. I definitely wouldn't pay near a thousand for one.
