M5/M6 or ActiveHybrid 5 and AM Vantage

Hello everyone. I am new and hope you can help me with a decision. Its actually a very strange one, but circumstances are making such that the 2 choices I have are as follows: I am trying to decide on a new car or new cars. Either an M5/M6 new. Or a combo or a Active Hybrid 5 and a V8 Vantage. The Hybrid I would probably drive 5/6 days a week and the Vantage only 1-2 times a week.

One one hand the M cars are the best everyday cars and just excellent all-around. On the other, I would be able to get a dream car in the vantage but potentially be spending most of my time driving the hybrid.

Would very much appreciate any thoughts or advice/experiences.

thanks! thanks!

Given you would hardly be using the Vantage you would presumably get more driving pleasure from the M car than the hybrid. If you're using the car five or six times per week I would go for whichever combination gives you the most satisfaction and pleasure.

Used XFR (facelift) and Vantage. I know its not on your list but was blown away by the XFR at a recent driving day.

Don't buy abrandnew m5 or especially m6 , financial suicide and to be honest the current ones are a bit dull.

Question ... Why would you only drive the AM 1-2 days a week? Why not drive it every day? I do and so do some others, it's a bit hard on the suspension and heavy on the juice, but wow, you get to drive your dream every day.

YOU GET TO DRIVE YOUR DREAM EVERY DAY readit

So why would you want a BMW, just as well get a ford focus, save your money and buy a picture of the AM and stick it on your wall ..... Or drive your dream every day.

Even if it is only a V8 and not a V12 wink

I had to look up what an 'Active Hybrid' was, mainly as I hate the concept and the utter halfwitedness of what people are trying to do with those types of cars. The whole concept of flawed and deeply unsettling as you realise how little people understand about the use of energy and raw materials.

Then I saw it had a turbocharged inline six engine which is rather cynical and that made me smile. I bet that shifts quite nicely smile

It'll have 80% of the performance of the M car, you certainly won't notice the difference on a commute when all you want is comfort, lots of toys and a bit of poke once or twice on the journey. When you do try and overtake some head-up-their-arse-pseudo-planet-saving moron in a Prius or whatever pathetic car they bought to impress equally mentally-restricted wannabee environmentalists, it'll shift perfectly well.

But then at the weekends you get into something very special and a world away from your daily driver. There was always only going to be one response on an Aston Martin forum, but I think this one is correct. For maximum effect, get a roadster as well, just so you >really< know you're out of your daily hack. You can always drive a roadster with the roof up, you can't drop it on a coupe. True story.

Does an M5/6 depreciate quicker than a V8 Vantage ??

I lost £23k over 22 months on a new V8 which exceeded my expectations.

However I remain pessimistic if i had chosen an M car for a similar outcome.

Astons don't depreciate if you don't sell them. Buy an Aston, chose a classic if poss (Vanquish would be best), drive it, when finished push it into the garage ........

....... then look for another

See ! No depreciation ....... smile

The enormous trees in your front garden have 'depreciated' somewhat Neil yes

I believe you are still in Brazil so you won't have seen all the wagons taking the logs away.

Your Vanquish is covered with ice on your drive whilst my DB9 is like toast in your garage....with your cover on.

God bless your wife biggrin

I guessed you might agree ..... wink

The problem here is that the thread asked for £50k car .... I don't see a Vanquish for £50k frown on Autotrader.

However £50k will buy a pretty good 9.

Having said that the Vanquish seems to have bottomed out at about £55k, however the 9 seems to have bounced down to £32k.

Does anyone know how many 9's have been made and how many Vanquished have been made? I have a feeling that that may be the reason there is a price difference ....... anyone know how many ??

Maverick - selling prices never tell the full picture.

If you subtract the ENORMOUS maintenance costs from the Vanq selling price you will get a more accurate figure yes

I'm not going to bite Phil. I know which one is nice and snug and which one has a foot of ice on it!

Maverick the combined total of all Vanquish and Vanquish S is about 2,200, with slightly more V12 Vanquish than there are Vanquish S. I think they make more DB9's than that each year.
