Wow, divetheworld, incredibly detailed post. And you must have read my mind because part of what you mention is indeed exactly what I want to do. My idea was to repurpose a Sport switch to use for a fuse 22 latch switch.

I also was thinking of repurposing a second switch (possibly an unlabeled seat backrest recline or glovebox switch) as a momentary switch to replace the mute button on the remote display for my V1 Radar Locator. I would place both switches in the center console ahead of the center armrest.

Do you know if the glass and plastic versions of the switches are identical internally?

Molly, if no one else claims them, I will gladly accept any switches Rob replaces. smile

Cheers.
I would say that logically speaking, if the glass switches replace the normal ones then they would have to be identical.
My email is brent at puwer.co.uk, if you undertake the project then ill dig out part numbers and suppliers of the bits I used and help you with repurposing the switches.

Does anyone know where or how Bamford sources the matching plug connector for the "Sport" and "Damper" glass buttons in Yeti's and GlynV8's cars?
Sorry to bring this back on topic, but to answer KarlFranz's question:
Yes you could just find a connector to fit the switches, but then you may have another problem. The switches are designed just to send a signal pulse to the ECU or relevant control module and are not simple on-off switches. So depending on what you want them to do they may or may not work unless you also introduce some sort of control circuitry somewhere. What BR do as far as I am aware is gut the contents of the original switch and then use an on-off contact switch to form a new hybrid design that then does the job they want. I am not exactly sure what they use but the idea is to change the output to either on (+ signal) or off (- signal). All the AM switches are the same as far as I am aware, so try and pick up any old switch from a breaker and have a play before you spend £50 on a new glass switch.

That's what I was discribing earlier. Except instead of replacing the switch element, the internals are modified to work with a flip-flop board. this keeps the feel of the switch original.
Pictures of the board:

This is just tinkering! We have two companies. One does safety inspections on machinery and control systems, the other builds systems for military, civilian and commercial diving apparatus.

having been on some road trips, I am interested in installing a bank of 4 power sockets in the car, but hardwire them in and screw them in under the dash somewhere, for Phone charging/SatNav/GoPro/iPod/iPad/iPhone/camera charging etc.

Maybe x4 one side and x4 the other, also would like one in the back etc ... but would have to be really subtle and not showing, also I'd like a nice switch to turn them on and off, again something looking like it came from the factory.....

Any idea's would be most welcome ........

Most of those items are charged via USB nowadays. Why not use 4 way USB hub?

Recent road trip, I had ....

Garmin (SatNav number 2)
Xperia (SatNav number 3 and telecom number 2)
GoPro (Damn good quality camera)
iPod (Music/Camera)
iPad (Charging as Auxilary for Google maps and route finder)

Then my little girl wanted to charge and play with her iPod (Games and music-headphones)

I had a set of 4 chargers with an extension in an extension for 2 USB's. I am finding that some tech is a bit power hungry and so USB's don't always work, especially on my Xperia.

Also the GoPro has a battery that states it will last about 60 minutes. Rubbish. 20 minutes at the best, at -10C, it was lasting a few minutes and so had to run the power supply, I wanted to run the GoPro all over the car, and the wire won't run to the back of the car, for a rear view.

I'm thinking of running a power supply directly from the battery with a seperate 15amp fuse. But I bought, whilst 1000miles from home, a crap charger that blew the fuse. Try changing a fuse at -10C, and wearing 2 pairs of glasses, because I'm so bloody old my eye sight can't see the damn numbers on them..... banghead With a seperate power supply, with a nice easily accesable fuse, with a seperate on/off switch, ... ALL HIDDEN ..., I can run all the tech I want ....... smile

People maywell laugh, but having done a couple of hundred thousand miles in Europe over the years, I know a number of things that will fail, and in the old days before Mobile phones (yes I'm that old) and SatNav's, I used to use maps (and a list of phone numbers to dial from landlines at service stations) and there was nothing to fail, now I know that, "tech will fail", I took 3 SatNavs, on the last trip, and 2 failed, and in places I defaulted to the map. So I took 3 SatNavs AND a Map.

Having gone beautifuuly off subject ........ tongue out

Any links or info on where I could buy some good quality auto electrical sockets / switches / fuses ? smile

There is a good range of power sockets at Maplin.
If you need something more obscure, RS components will have it.
As a side note, you can get automotive resettable circuit breakers.....

Spending 3 or 4 months a year in Europe in the motorhome, I know where you're coming from... My van has sockets all over the place, from the bathroom for shaver charging, to the living area for 12v TV watching, and the cab for everything else...iPods, phones, sat nav etc etc.....

So my advice would be to have a look at the motorhome websites and forums, or have a chat with someone like Dave Newall in Telford...smile

The MH does have 3 massive batteries though, and even then sometimes I need a 2kw Honda genny..... Not sure where you'll fit that In. DB9...

Trailer for the Yaris.....mostly stay around Rhone-Alps, region, but also like the Loire valley, limousin, and midi Pyrenees areas...

What do I do?? hehe..... Most days consist of getting up around 7.30 to 8, a short walk with the dog down to the village patisserie for croissant and bread....back for breakfast, then shower, then take the dog for a leisurely walk around the village or up into some woods, come back, listen to music, read a book, lunch...... Then siesta. Maybe do a bit of clothes washing, take the dog for a walk, game of boules,.....it's all quite hectichehe
