Used www.servicethecar.com to obtain quotes for a 7 year service for my DB9 , which includes spark plug change.
Cheapest quote was from Grange Exeter at £760, followed by Bridge Hill Motors at Macclesfield at £841.50.
Rang Grange Exeter . Service reception stated that AM price was £1800 but that I could have a discount of £400 .
Mentioned the website price. No explanation as to why there was such a disparity , so error ?

Harwoods quote £650 for the 10k service and £995 for the 20k service; alternating until a 70k service at £1275. This means the plug change costs an extra £625 over the standard service. Don't forget the plug change is predicated on mileage, not years.

Hi

Just had my 7 year service done last October, I provided my own oil and Stratstone Derby did the service for £1300.

Shop around and negotiate on supplying oil and sparks etc.

So it's a 70k mile plug change irrespective of age of car?

That makes Harwood's £650 (including oil) look very reasonable.

Cost me over £350 in parts when I serviced my own car for the same service. I thought that was a good deal, and I knew it was done as opposed to someone telling me that the spark plugs were done and there was nooooo way that I could tell or not.

After that length of time the plugs defo needed doing, so don't be listening to mileage is low, so it's ok, after 7 years, they needed changing. Of course the dealer could be thinking of your pocket, or he could be thinking that there is a better chance of getting a cheaper service than the dearer one from you ...... wink

Plugs are usually changed on mileage unless they are the cheaper type. I thought that with the introduction of platinum and now iridium tipped plugs, they were designed to last a minimum of the recommended miles?
There are no working parts in a plug as such, just the burning at the tip which is almost nothing on an iridium covered one and that is why they last so long. The gap remains virtually constant.
I would have thought this type of spark plug could easily be left in an engine without a problem. confused

In November I also got the lowest online quote from Grange Exeter for a 2 year V8V Service - £630 incl a Jag courtesy car . It came out cheaper than even BR or Bridge Mill!

I m in South Wales & it was well worth the trip past Stratstones in Cardiff who wouldnt budge an inch from the "menu" £1,000+ quote!

How can a main dealer with larger overheads be cheaper than an Indi?

The service schedule is set … the hours to do each service is set (excluding consumables, pads, etc..)

I assume these quotes are for the basic service.

Surely it’s not the case they would leave anything off the schedule, to make it cheaper?

I've seen and used the service schedule for an Indy - DMS.

I've seen and used the service schedule for a Dealer - JCT.

They are not exactly the same smile
