Anyone know anything about Dension Gateways ?

My car is fitted with a 6 CD changer and a Dension Gateway device fitted by the previous owner .

There is an I-pod connector in the glove box , the wire of which disappears behind the light fitting in the box.

The Dension seems to have disabled the CD changer.

I've tried everything I can think of to get the changer to work , to no avail.

Anyone any ideas please ?

With any normal car/stereo system you can normally connect anything to it, no problem. But with AM, they designed a fibre-optic system, its very good, but to connect anything into it, is a problem. Thus they use a gateway that interfaces into the new system. I don't know the make you have mentioned, and thus I may be speaking out of my ar5e, if I am I do apologise..... frown

It sounds like the previous owner, put an interface into the infotainment system, to run his iPod, it obvioulsy cut out the CD.

Question is, is this a bad thing? You might want to use an iPod yourself, if you use an iPod, the system will work perfectly. (the whole point of an interface is to allow the full use of the amp system, otherwise you'd be amping an amp).

There are different gateways that you can fit that will allow the CD to work, but you will have to change the one you have. Or you take it out altogether and use the CD only.

Are you a DIY'er, if so you can strip down the dash and remove the interface etc, but first you need to work out what you want .....

iPod, iPod and CD, or CD alone ..... then you have the telephone system - don't forget that, is that added, or do you use AM's own integrated system. smile

This sounds like the system that is installed by companies such as Paralight. http://www.paralight.co.uk/IpodKitsBuyOnline/tabid...

This from their website:

"We have been given access to enable us to develop a ‘Gateway’ device. This adds another device into the Fibre Optic network and emulates another CD Changer. This can then be swapped, via a switch, with the existing in-dash changer. One way, Ipod. Other way, indash changer. It can be switched on the move and takes around 6 seconds to switch."

So I'd either a) look for a switch somewhere or b) contact Paralight directly or wait until they read this and then follow their suggestions.

Correct!

I have just sold my Vantage which had this peice of kit in it which works ok once youv'e got your head around it.
The switch which controls the CD player back to CD/Dension HAS A BLUE LED look for that mine was under the dash next to my left knee.

£454 from Paralight: http://www.paralight.co.uk/IpodKitsBuyOnline/IpodI...

Maybe cheaper from elsewhere.

An alternative ....

One of these clips on your iphone. About £480 less, install time 10 seconds and works like a dream.

AND I have full control of my music not using some limited cryptic CD emulator.

Is there a missing link there somewhere? wink

I am using a plug-in FM transmitter at the moment which is adequate, but still bit of a faff. Interested to see some alternatives.

Hello - Took part of my dash apart this weekend and guess what I found ....... smile

So I flicked the switch and now I don't have a CD player, only a radio. What do i need to do to get the iPod to work and indeed the CD to work again. I have flicked the switch on and off, and it seems to make no difference.

I must be doing something wrong ........ frown

Do I need to tune the radio into a frequency, or use a Harry Potter wand ...... nerd

I would call Paralight.

The switch made no difference to the radio, it simply switches the cd on and off in my insance.

My switch goes from iPod only interface to CD/radio OEM interface. So if you have the radio function, pressing the CD button should take you back to CD, and vice versa. If you select iPod mode, it overrules everything.

Very effective system, or would be if I ever plugged an iPod into it anymore yes
