Could someone point me to the thread which I'm sure is somewhere (the forum seach function is dreadful) on Iphone 5 and the Aston, especially related to the cable I now need as the old style one won't work?

I saw the hints on pairing it with the bluetooth in FAQ.

Out of interest can you still use the phone as a phone if its pluged in and being used as Ipod?

Mine paired up fine with bluetooth and I use the apple adapter from the old style connector to the new lightning style. Again all working fine but cost just shy of £100 to by one for each car.

Cheers,

Phil

don't know how the interfaces have changed over the years, but on the more recent cars, whether iphone 4, 4s or 5, you can definitely use it as an ipod through the lead and have it paired thru bluetooth as a phone

not sure about the £100 cost referred to above though - I bought the small lightning adaptor from the apple store for either £20 or £25 (I can't remember which) and plugged it onto the end of the standard lead that comes with the car - that works fine in mine

I've bought a load of these (at a tenth of the cost of the genuine ones) and they all work fine

I've tried it with the lightning adapter, the music works but doesn't charge the phone - so no good for me on longer trips.

the seller states they don't work for audio ? They look like they are only suitable for charging ?

Does it charge the phone? I'm guessing not without a Scoshe or similar adaptor to convert the voltage. Having two adaptors plugged in would be a bit much.

I tried one of the bluetooth adaptor things that's supposed to let you play music through wirelessly, but I couldn't get it to work. There's loads of different ones, but I can't be bothered trying too many more.

I previously had Scoshe adapter so my Iphone4 would charge. The Scoshe never fit that well into the phone and did not allways stay connected. I bought the Iphone 5 (lightning adapeter) with cord and connected the Scoshe, it actually is easier to use with the cord. The phone charges and plays perfectly.

Yup, iphone adapter only required on my 09 DB9.

However, I did get the Gen 2 kit installed last year so that it would charge as well as play, without the scosche adapter smile

The ones I have (which I admit weren't from the same seller as they were pulled just after I got them) were listed similarly, but they do everything the standard lightning connector does as well as charging. They were worth a punt at £2.50-ish rather than £25 for the genuine Apple ones, and so far I'm more than happy.

Thanks for all the info.

I take it this is the Apple cable http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD824ZM/A/lightn...

Though if I understand correctly the Ebay ones are very much cheaper but it's a bit hit and miss whether they'll do everything (play, charge, etc)?

I like the solution then I don't have to buy a bunch of adaptors.

I have these
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD823ZM/A/lightn...

one for my audi, one for the Aston. In both instances, fitted on the end of the OEM car manufacturer's leads in the two respective cars

In my audi, it does audio & charges, just like when the lead was plugged directly (without the Apple adaptor) into my iphone 4

In the Aston, it definitely allows full audio. I will check later whether it also charges and post again

There are definitely people with the same adaptor who state it doesn't allow full functionality, so it probably depends on the car audio set-up, perhaps it's age ? - my audi is 2 yrs old and the Aston is new.

The iPhone 4/4s and 5 will connect but not charge on cars up to about 2010(?). I have a 2009 V8V and have this issue - awaiting the new part to arrive so I can listen and charge at the same time....

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried plugging the lightning to USB connector (which comes with the iPhone) into the USB port of the car?

I was thinking also about the USB port, but I've not got around to trying it.

I think I tried the USB port when I got the car. It's a 2008) it charges, but no music.

How much does upgrading to the post-2010 iPod unit cost? Would be worth a fair but not to have to use a scoshe.

Steve - if you are referring to the Gen2 ipod kit, I paid £85 (free fitting as I was getting other work done) last year smile

If you research BingoBob, he did a sort of tutorial on it smile
