V8 Vantage Engine Bay
Discussion
Never worked on the V8 engine, sorry , but I have sprayed some very funny materials before. You need to obviously have them on the bench and clean them until they look like they just came out the fatory. This is where the work starts, normal stuff - like use abrasive paper to rough the surface etc ....
Whilst this is normally important in any circumstances, this (unfortunately) is not some school project, the engine will get hot, vibrate a lot, then get freezing cold, then red hot, then freezing cold etc etc etc Not forgetting that the plastic is flexible ....... so the damn paint has to flex as well.
There may be some paint that can help you, but they don't come in many colours and even then you may need to do the job annually or more often, you need to look on ebay for, etching primer, its just primer with acid in it, not too expensive, about £12.00 - £18.00 a can. Then you need heat resistant paint, which mostly comes in black, which would be a waste because its black anyway.
Have not really looked under the V8 bonnet, is there anything else Aluminium that does not get so hot, and does not flex that can be sprayed?
IMO, I think the black looks good, but hey .... thats me

Carbon fibre maybe?
Yes, you can get them covered in Carbon Fibre, the problem is that its really expensive. You need to take them off and hand them to a professional small firm that specialise in Carbon Fibre, I have seen a few on the internet. Because it is a, "one off", you will pay for the development costs on a, "one off', basis. I have seen what they do, they take your part, and cover it in CB, not just normal CB, but the weave has to be perfect and lacquered etc etc.CB, if you just want it for strength and lightness, is actually a poor finish, the finishes you see on top spec cars etc, takes a lot of work, which you will pay for, indeed it will be, "reassuringly expensive", this is why these parts for cars costs so much. Yes, its the cost of the CB etc, but the disproportional costs come in the, "finish".
I'm not saying don't customize, think of it this way, "if it was easy - everyone would do it".

Don't know too much about the V8, but can you get a Carbon Fibre engine brace (3 of them), then there is the front engine cover, I think they do them in CB. Then there are all the rubber tubes / pipes, they can be changed for silver stainless steel braided ones.
That might be a good idea actually, the tubes!I'll visit the local paintshop for the covers and will see what they say.
Any website that i can find the tubes ?
A website for braided steel pipes. Now you got me going …….
Try this one …….
http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk
This is a Motorsport shop that is within the racetrack grounds of Castle Combe Circuit, you might want to phone them and talk to the owner, his name is Steve, obviously been doing it for years.
Choices, if you were really into it, you can take off your manifolds and have them heat coated, these guys can plate them with something called Zircotec, having said that you might want to look into Zircotec and see if you can go directly to the Ziro people. You have have them different colours.
Turning to the pipes etc, Samco
http://www.samcosport.com
….. which is the same stuff that Merlin sell, can do it in Blue or red (or black – but what’s the point). They do a huge range so you could turn a lot of the pipes into blue or red. Then there are the stainless steel braiding sheath, that is, you use your pipes and cover them in steel braiding, this is cheaper and might be easier. Then there is changing the pipes for steel braided ones, but there are different types of rubber inside, I forgot the names but some are silicone, some are plastic etc, some are hard and others softer, and with these you need different connectors etc.
You didn’t think it was going to be that easy though did you ...... , then you have to cover the ends of the braided pipe because the steel will untwist and look terrible. There are some cheap plastic ones, and they are ok, but there are also, blue and red aluminium ones and well as chrome plated steel ones. They are expensive at £10.00 each, I know that does not sound much, but start adding them up …….
Also you need to go careful as to what type of rubber is used where, some don’t like oil/petrol contact, others are designed for it, so you need to differenciate between air flow, water flow and fuel flow.
Also you need to go very careful with making sure the pipes are fitted correctly, obviously because of leaks, but not just that, say you have an air intake or manifold vacuum, the connection must be perfect, otherwise you lose the vacuum …….. what happens then is your engine starts to run rough and OBDII lights start looking at you.
You could also look at heat shielding, there are some nice silver braided snap-on pipe covering, this gives a nice appearance and is a heat shield, you will need Zip-ties, get some stainless steel ones, not plastic (obviously)
Still want to do it ……. ??
Try this……
http://www.thevantagecollection.com/engine_cover.h...
and this ……
http://www.thevantagecollection.com/engine_struts....
Or you could cover the underside of your bonnet in silver heat shielding like the Aston Martin One77, try this …….
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=848...
Personally I think it is a awful lot of work for .... !!! Having said that, this is what, "moding", is about, its making the car personal to you .....
Good luck

They're not carbon fibre, they are wrapped. That's all.
As much as I like the carbon look, I think the anodized strut bars in our cars are gorgeous as they are. I also find it interesting that the performance pack for the vantage replaces the pretty silver alloy intake plenum for a boring black one. Maybe they should've painted it crinkle red or something to signify more power.

Boring black dissipates heat better than other colours....I also find it interesting that the performance pack for the vantage replaces the pretty silver alloy intake plenum for a boring black one. Maybe they should've painted it crinkle red or something to signify more power.
