I have either very poor or no radio reception in the car, won't find stations on a search and on the odd occasion it does, the reception is intermittent. Anyone have any ideas or is this typical of the Linn system. To be honest I have never tried radios until yesterday as always have my iPod.

Thanks in advance

Relax ....... slow down ...... running to a dealer ??

Check the most obvious reasons first, take the radio apart (about 10 minutes) and make sure the ariel is plugged into the back.

Then trace it back from there. It sounds like a lose connection, but lose connections have a way of costing a lot of money, take it to Aston Martin and they will just charge you by the hour, they could spend 5 hours looking for a problem and it could cost a £1,000.00 before you start to change stuff.

Try this first and post again .... smile

Ah Maverick, I only wish I had your confidence to work on the car ( I have been reading with interest some of the posts on the engine work you are doing ). Whilst I would prefer not to pay out I am a bit anal about everything working, even though I have hardly used the radio.

Indeed. Take it to someone who knows how to fix it.

DM23 and Yeti, I agree about someone who knows what they are doing. I'm certainly not saying strip down the radio and get a soldering iron out and start playing with the electronics, I would not do that as I have not a clue about how to fix electronics. If you read my SatNav thread, I took the SatNav to a shop who specilaise in Volvo SatNav.

What I am saying is, check the ariel is not lose or just not plugged in.

If the radio has little or no signal, but the stereo system works with your iPod, and the amp system works perfect, speakers etc etc, then it sounds like a signal issue ...... smile

Isn't the am/fm receiver completely separate to the actual dash. It is in the drivers wheel arch. That unit could be at fault and a swap with a good unit would show if it was at fault, no need for soldering. Ask the garage how they would go about the diagnoses and tell them everything else works fine. Get a quote for the hours to diagnose, it is just the radio after all.

Slacker, yes the unit is completely seperate, Its located in the drivers side rear wheel arch. The ariel is under the boot lid, its an antenna film with 2 signal amplifiers either side. If you are not getting a signal, but the stereo works, the I'd start at the radio receiver and the boot lid film ariel.

I don't know how much shaking the receiver takes from the suspension and wheel, but its a funny place to put it (maybe they were short on space, or maybe it had to be close to the ariel) perhaps someone can confirm this ......... !

You don't need to look at the dash at all - well at the moment anyway. smile

I’d say Slacker's and Maverick's posts have been helpful. Demonstrating some technical understanding to any service/repair agent of a

possible problem, could be a benefit to your pocket.

This sort of practical insight is always appreciated on the forum... and should be encouraged.

Hi All

I'm a new boy here, just bought an 06 vantage a month ago and have all ready benefited from some of the posts here. I have the same poor radio reception, tried a longer roof aerial with no change, did you ever resolve your problem?

Thanks

You know what, come to think of it when I use my radio (06 vantage) I have same issues.
Poor reception in most areas on most stations. Ipod works fine, very well in fact. But station searching is terrible.

Knackered wiring perhaps?

I had an 06 DB9 volante and had exactly the same trouble.dealer comment was that most of them are like that .thought that the general build quality was poor and also had all the paint bubbling issues.car had only done 16000 miles with full main dealer history.wouldnt buy another.Harry.
