Premium Audio - In depth

Very interesting. I am curious as to why you change the balance - doesn't that mean the music will be distorted for the passenger, as her (hopefully) nearside speakers are now too loud?
Must confess, the times I am the passenger and "her" is driving, I'm far too nervous about what she's doing to notice any issues with the radio sound! montecristo said:

Its about imagery. The driver should be able to close his/her eyes and picture a uniform soundstage. With the speakers being so poorly positioned, the path lengths from each driver are so different that the image will be skewed. Without time alignment, someone will have a poor image. Better the passenger than the driver.Wanna see how bad a car is? Cut this to disc and play. The 7 drums are equidistant on the soundstage.

Interesting, Im going to give this a go. Ive not been all that impressed with the premium audio so far, including the FAQ set up.
I guess its all subjective. I find it extremely droany at low Volumes
That was how I had it set up from the FAQs. The base from the subwoofer was too much for my missus in the passenger seat she felt as if she was in the front row of a punk concert! It also found it droany and not clear...fixed now!I guess its all subjective. I find it extremely droany at low Volumes
As post necro seems the be all the rage at the moment (side effect of the pandemic? Too much time and nowhere to drive?) I thought I’d dig this thread out and change my audio settings from those in the sticky to these, just to see how it sounds.
With the caveat that I set the balance to “centre” so the sound is equally compromised for the passenger, I will say I’m quite impressed. I initially thought the sound on the CD I was playing (Beach Boys 20 Golden Greats) was a little “thin” and bright, so I upped the Bass setting a couple of bars and that seemed to bring back some of the richness.
One question to Divetheworld if he picks this up: I turned off Dolby as you suggested but I note in your settings you didn’t mention a value for the “Centre” setting, so I left mine at 0

Another q for divetheworld would be regarding how to solve the issue of the missing mid-bass by installing 5.25" additional speakers. I'm assuming there's a crossover of some sort on the OE rear speakers, so how would you then incorporate another crossover into the mix to run the 5.25" ? Would you need to change the rears for 3 way components ?
