I've spent thousands over the years on products, latest trends etc, but when I recommend a product, I do so because I know it works. The things I suggest more often than not cost more than the Halfords type stuff, but this is because you get what you pay for. They will do a better, safer job and will last longer, making it better financial sense in the long run.
So what you are saying is, if I purchase the CarPro Wool Wash Mitt and a bottle of Nanolex Reactivating Shampoo I will see the difference from using the Autoglym shampoo and my Microfibre Wash Mitt??

Well, the Carpro mitt is much much safer on your cars paint. I would never use a MF mitt. The nanolex will add protection over time too, but a shampoo is there just to clean the car, so the stuff you use will work too. This is just better. If your paint needs correcting then, it's never going to look its best until that gets sorted.

Do you wax it at all?

Allegedly I had "Pure Guard" put onto my car externally and internally so I have some paint protection. The paperwork that came with it states that it will last for 6 years! yeah right, but at least I have some protection from the elements as my car lives outside. (Had my car 2 months)

I know the shampoo I use will do the job of cleaning it but I was told when I purchased the car, that this protection just needs to be washed and then dried off with a microfiber cloth and that's it.

So I take it the wool mitt you suggest will be better than what I am using presently to wash my car, and the Nanolex Reactivating Shampoo would be better to use with this protection than the Autoglym shampoo I am using? would the Nanolex Reactivating Shampoo assist the protection I have on the car, or should I just stick with the Autoglym shampoo as I have the protection anyway?

Any help would be great, thanks.

The pure guard stuff isn't very good at all and to be honest, it probably won't last the year. The 22ple glass coat I use is the best on the market and even that is only two years.

Wash the car with normal shampoo and if the water runs off then its got protection, if not, then it hasn't. The nanolex stuff will be the best shampoo for everyone in terms of adding some protection as you wash.

To dry the car, you need a couple of these:

So the nanolex stuff would be a good idea taking into consideration what I have on my car already along with the wool mit?

Parade Gloss shoe polish on tyres.
Just right. Lasts for ages and does not look artificially shiny.
Best applied by a soldier.

Whenever I fork out for some cleaning products something new always comes along which is better!

I tend to use Swissvax car bath spring to autumn and it washes well. I don't think it's that expensive really seeing as you tend to need very little for each wash. For winter when the cars are dirtier I use snowfoam followed by Cherry Glaze which seems to work quite well (although Francis will probably be along in a minute to say it's rubbish!)
Autobrite non-acidic cleaner is the best thing I've found for wheels.

I never clean the cars as often as I should though ... paperbag

What do the pros think about rapid detailer from autoglym?

For a car that's previously been detailed, waxed? and that's just a bit dusty?

Combined with soft clean microfiber obviously..

Been using this for a while now rather than cleaning the car entirely everytimeitgets just a little dusty (dark colours)..... Not sure if good idea or not. Seems to work though.

Personally, I wouldn't use a quick detailing spray to remove dust. There is just no real safe way of doing it without the risk of marring in the paint.

Exactly. You only have to look at a forum such as Detailing World to see how faddy the whole thing is.

Hi Paddy,

I found your advice here really useful. Im no scrooge when it comes to car cleaning products but some of the products in your cleaning guide (e.g. Swissvax etc) are just are way out of my league. Would it be possible to recommend some other lower budget cleaning products. For example are waxes such as Dodo Juice or Poorboys any good? Maybe we could start a new thread so we don't hijack this one

Many Thanks

As everyone has poo poo the Autoglym cleaning products and have given me external cleaning alternatives that are better, what about the interior cleaning products.

I am not even going to mention the interior Autoglym cleaning products for fear of being told they are scensorede.

So I have Caspian Blue dashboard and door pockets etc and my seats, door inners and rear parcel shelf inner is Sandstorm. Can anyone please recommend leather cleaning products and also leather products to keep the leather in good order?

Many thanks.
