Difficult question, my first thoughts are that I would not buy a DBS from anywhere other than an AM dealer, however this one looks like a very good price

At £80k it is around £15k less than a dealer model, albeit with slightly higher miles. Anyone know car or thoughts?

I don't mean to sound rude but why on earth not?

If you do all of the usual checks (to include an expert inspection, if you're not too mechanically inclined), then there shouldn't be a problem. It is, after all, just a car (however expensive or 'exotic' some of the materials and components might be).

(There is a caveat to that, however: be very, very careful to check to see whether or not the current or previous owner(s) has got a copy of the AM Workshop Manual. He might be bit of a maverick, after all...) hehe

Yes,I would have bought private but at the time the only guy who had one private was £3k more than I could buy from a dealer.Don't ask why I still don't understand.

I would check the history and bills ,and if any concerns pay to have an inspection.

I may be selling mine shortly,it's just had a health check at Aston, will get a service in the next few weeks ....if you fancy a older car (08) in a better colour with a manual box and 12k miles let me know.

Can't echo this enough. It's becoming a genuine concern that people who literally have >no< idea what they are doing are fiddling with things they shouldn't be. And of coure, they will then sell them to some poor unsuspecting soul later with a FSH frown

Damned right I would if the price was right. With a main dealer car, you'll get a year of warranty and that's probably about it. If you get a private car inspected and pay 2k you can have that anyway. Factor it into the price and see what it would cost. Dealers buy their cars privately too ya know.

Personally I would not by give £80k of my hard earned cash to any private individual regardless of the potential saving, but if you can get over the potential pitfalls and £80k isnt such a huge risk/exposure to you then I can understand why you might be very tempted with a £15k saving.

That said, if nothing else it shows you the level of trade-in -v- forecourt prices on such a car, because you can reasonably assume that a dealer has offered him less than £80k for it!

Why though? Am I being naive? If you get it properly inspected, get a proper AM warranty on it and perform the necessary background checks then what could go wrong that wouldn't if you bought from a main dealer?

Yes, the risks of buying privately extend beyond their being a problem with the car itself. The money transaction will always be problematic with a degree of trust required from one or the other party to complete the transaction, plus there are also several criminal angles to fake car sales!

Its all about your personal approach to risk and how significant the potential loss of some or all of the funds would be to you.

Thank God for people like you who will only buy from main dealers......leaves the bargains for poor people like me and the OP......The car would be on an Aston forecourt at 88k.......he would be offered 72-75 k from a dealer .......it's a great deal at 77k ........good luck, looks like a fantastic car

Unless I'm missing something you can find a selection of cars with half the mileage ( and Astons are mileage sensitive) for only around 5 k more pre-negotiations from a main dealer, which should include warranty, inspection etc....Like this one from the nice people at Cambridge
https://used.astonmartin.com/en-GB/Search/Details~...
With about 3 very similar you should get a discount and the peace of mind of main dealer purchase.

I wouldn't have a problem buying privately but would ensure expert inspection from a main dealer ( particularly if you want warrant) Bamford or the like, the CCM's, carbon panels and ADS in particular need careful inspection, along with the usual checks on the FSH, accidents (HPI) etc. For some reason many who sell Aston's privately ask dealer prices and personally I would want a decent saving in order buy privately. Best of luck smile

Edited to add this one even has the Phantom Grey carpets which save 1.7 kg biggrin

Seen these? Much lower miles than what you showed previously and with (in some cases) respected dealers. That's even before haggling!
I bought a v12v privately via this evry forum and got it inspected at Aston Works.

Personally privately or via a dealer does not matter. Just want the best possible car for the money. Inspection costs £300 and you can renew warranty.

The OP is looking at a 2009 plate, all the others are 2008 plates.
Also as we now know all Astons are clocked, so milage is nothing to go by!

i may be a complete idiot but I much prefer a 2008 car with 5k miles for £80k rather than a 2009 car with 20k miles+ for the same money.
When it comes to clocking, I would make sure an Aston dealer went all over the car before commiting to anything.
