Hi, I have to take the car to AM to get sorted, but wondered if anyone had experienced this.
If I drive sedately then no problem. However if I give the loud pedal lots of exercise I get a strong smell of fuel. It seems strongest when I open the hatch, inside the boot.
I don't think it is the fuel filler cap as that seems tight and smell of petrol is almost non existent around it.

Anyone experience this?

I am hoping the answer is not TADT!

Thanks

Gerry

That's not normal!
Check out Burntout's comments from 3rd April 2012 on this thread to see what the response at a franchised dealer or a good independent may be.

Many thanks all, the only drive I will be doing now is to the AM dealer, hopefully the warranty will cover it.

Thx

Gerry

Gerry, I would treat it the same as I do the pungent smell of chloroform in George's car and run like hell.

Get Tom to take it to the Dealer toute de suite yes

Sounds like a blocked vapour return pipe, or whatever it's called. Easy fix but get it done soon smile

Just thought I would give an update in case anyone else suffers a similar issue, sorry it has taken so long to report back, been on holiday.

The dealer tells me that in the boot there is an inspection panel for the fuel tank. The seal on the panel had corroded and they are fitting a new seal today. For some reason it is not covered under the AM warranty (seems strange to me!) but they are not going to charge me given that I have only had the car since February.
So another thumbs up for Grange of Brentwood from me. They came to my house and collected the car yesterday and they are delivering it back to my house today. No charge, all part of the service.

Good result.

However I wonder how often these things are covered under the warranty but the dealer just can't be arsed with the faff of claiming for a small amount.

Potentially gives the warranty a bad name which is unjustified

Just my 2p

Back to my regulatory return now frown

I suspect it's a plate which will have the fuel level sender attached.

Is it still running I thought I burnt down?
