Excellent, nearly fell of my seat laughing.
By the way, would you like to represent me when the negotiations start with AM over getting my "Bubble" car fixed.
You could threaten them with you lightweight flywheel instead of a tray!

My car is also a 2007 (2008 MY) V8 Vantage Roadster, 16,000 miles 1 previous owner
I got an estimate from an AM approved repairer (as requested from AM)

To remove both doors etc, fix bubbles on both doors, paint both doors
Blend paint into front and rear of newly painted doors
ie paint both full sides of the car

Labour at circa £50/hr + VAT
Paint & Sundries £500 + VAT
etc, etc.

Replace corroded exterior trim parts etc

Thats how you get to £3K easily

Is it a coincidence that circa 2006/2007 cars are the worst, when Aston production was at its peak?
Your repairs are almost identical to mine except I had a corroded wing mirror to sort - 600 pounds a year ago ,perfect job - it's a paint job not brain surgery !!! By the way no one will guarantee it won't come back once repainted

My favorite Eddie Izzard skit. I love it. Had no idea someone had put it to Lego animation. They did chop off the last 15 seconds, but still awesome!

Mine is starting to do that..... frown

Also the top section of leather nearest the window on the passanger side is peeling up from where it meets the main section of the dash, when i asked Aston about this being covered by the warranty they simply said it was wear and tear.... ???? This confused me because as far as I am aware this bit of the dash only gets touched when cleaning??? Wear & tear my @rse... The leather on the seats, yes I would see that being wear and tear but not the dash section...

I think its just a case of... We have had your money now dissapear and go away!!!!!

I think I have made my feelings well known in the past regarding main dealers... I had it recentley again with the drivers seat, the module is not responding therefore I cant move the seat, dropped it off to Walton On Thames... Fuse replaced seat still not working.... I have until end of June on my warranty and I am not going to renew it...... Oh and I will be back to get my seat fixed...

We see the door bubble problem in the same position again and again. If it isn't galvanic reaction, just poor paint preparation, (as claimed) why can’t it be guaranteed not to reoccur, once rectified?

Simple, if bubbling is under paint which is not missing or chipped, the corrosion is inside to out. If that status is agreed warranty covers rectification. If not, why not!
As the poster above mentioned, Mercedes had trouble with this for years and that tended to be corrosion on the outside of panels, under the paint. MB said the corrosion warranty only applied if the panel rusted through from inside to outside. The repairs Mercedes did on surface corrosion were under goodwill, but it often seemed random as to whether they would accept it or not.
The paint bubbling is not caused by corrosion, it by piss poor paint preparation. The anti corrosion warranty doesn't apply as its not corrosion and if you read the warranty it only covers rust. Which doesn't happen on aluminium or plastic (fibreglass etc) panels.

Have paint bubbling on mine so not defending Aston, but having read the corrosion warranty and been to the factory to show them and discuss it my view is they won't do anything as they legally don't have to.

Doesn't make them right though.

So Aston issue a warranty covering rust of steel, but the car is pretty much all made of aluminium and plastic. Emm, well that was not misleading consumers then was it!

The small claims court is a legal process but takes a far more "reasonable" view of who is right and wrong. I would imagine that bubbling under aluminium would fit the clapham omnibus definition of corrosion.

What would and average person expect. Panels that spontaneously get bubbles from under the paint would be called corrosion.

I'm pretty sure that Chartwells in Derby offer a guarantee. They did a fantastic job on both doors of my V8V, with AM paying a reasonable percentage as a goodwill gesture.

I had some paintwork done on my car through my local AM dealership, the usual door handle repairs etc..
In less than 6 months it has come back on the same panel. I am now waiting for AM to decide what they are going to do about it. I will keep you posted.

That shouldn't happen if the work was done properly. The doors need to be stripped completely of all hardware and the paint refinishing started from scratch

Nigel, around the doors handles was it diagnosed as galvanic reaction or paint prep failure?

Chartwells said that they thought it was paint prep failure and I tend to agree. I don't think there were any other 'metals' in the area of my corrosion to cause a local galvanic reaction

Well then it's just a routine Sale of Goods Act case with the goods not being of satisfactory quality. You could take a case through the small claims court online process against the last supplying dealer. You may or may not win - small claims court cases are very random.

As mentioned before, in any event they'd only be legally liable if they sold the car directly. Sometimes you can enforce a warranty directly, but if it's not a warranty issue then that becomes irrelevant anyway.

Wear and tear doesn't just refer to areas that get touched. The leather gets worn from age and exposure to the sun and/or elements. This sometimes causes it to shrink.

Surely reciting sale of goods act isn't going to work on a car that is 6-7 years old? 3 months sure, maybe even 3 years due to warranty. But older cars, IMHO, SoG os not the way to go.

It would be iffy, certainly. Satisfactory Quality does take account of the price paid. Would a reasonable person expect the paint on an expensive prestige car to need extensive repairs after 6-7 yrs?

Well I know for a fact the door wasn't stripped at all and the spray job was pretty poor to be honest. Overspray was left on the plastic door handle inner, on the side window, pillar, windscreen, bonnet etc... It looked as though it had been sprayed without much thought or prep and felt like a fine sandpaper to the touch.
They also put a new stone guard on the rear arch at the same time. They managed to get bubbles under it, removed it, took the paint off with it, and had to spray it again!

I took the car to Swissvax for correction afterwards and they used the most abrasive clays they had and machine polished it to improve the finish. I'm not sure they actually believed me that AM had just done the spray work! It cost me a few hundred quid too, probably not far off what I could have got the paint repaired for by an indie in the first place!

Anyway, Despite the above, hopefully AM will come back to me and agree to sort it out properly this time. The bubbles are on the same panel they sprayed, and it was only a matter of weeks between painting and notifying them of the new bubbles.

Fingers crossed

Perhaps not if they'd bought it new.

But if they've just bought a sub-30k 7 year old Vantage which may have spent every day in the sun or by the coast in salt air, no guaranteee how it's been treated, what chemicals have been used to clean it and so on.

I think even the man on the Clapham omnibus may have his doubts as to whether the paint should be perfect... I doubt his particular omnibus' paint would be in great condition after 7 years.
