But .... the paint problems are far and wide across the forums, and I think most live in Clapham as opposed to by the sea side in the sun! Most are low miles ( or low ish) and many live in a garage.

The thing is also sold with a 10 year corrosion gtee so there is a heavy intimation the factory stand behind the thing - regardless of what you paid for it.

Also bear in mind the whole "get the corrosion gtee" stamped is simply a motor trade ruse to get continued foot fall. My father was in that game for 40 years and in his view everything was for the benefit of the factory or dealers servicing revenue stream - rarely the customer - and he is not a cynical person - just a realist!

It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest.

Absolutely, I agree.

What is right and wrong is not being argued here. What is being argued is will Aston roll over and pay 3k per car because you say you've always looked after you paintwork from new, never exposed it to chicals, never been to the seaside or in the sun and you're arguing this even if you didn't own the car from new? Will it stand up in court? Sheer weight of numbers of owners with identical paint issues in the same locations is fairly compelling evidence... Depends on the beak on the day.

Once they have paid out the first group in a class action, what's then to stop every owner with an unrelated paint problem, scratch or stone chip going in for their free three grands worth of paintwork correction? Of course they will, it's human nature. Free respray? Don't mind if I do.

AML are a shareholder-owned business trying to make as much profit as possible; sometimes that makes companies short-sighted. They pay out that first group, the floogates will open, 3 grands worth of paint on every Gaydon car ever sold is about 90 million quid. They could easily go the way of TVR who were destroyed by engine warranty claims eventually.

They will resist, and resist hard.

If I told you the multitude of issues I have had with my purchase from main dealer you would fall over and have heart failure. The dealer principle in question no longer works there and AM HQ have been hopeless ... I am still fighting for resolution a year later.. 4 days is nothing!!!

Not strictly on topic, but along the same dealer bashing lines.

I had a nice letter from the dealer I just bought my DB9 from saying that if and when I receive the official AM questionnaire, if there is any aspect of their service I feel I cannot mark as 'outstanding' then I should call or email the francise director.

So I did.... Not that the service was terrible but far from outstanding. I had to chuckle when the email bounced because on their stock letter they had spelt his name completely wrong...oh dear, good start I thought.

Anyway, several days later till no response. AM and the dealers seem to shoot themselves in the foot on the very basics of customer service, which seems to make everything so much worse.....

Having taken mine to a well established and highly recommended independent, his view was my car could have been re-spayed in the area affected. (Mine is where the side strakes join the bodywork, trailing edge). Side strake then put back on, whilst pain was soft, causing it to bubble.

Have no reason to dis-believe him. So, the question for all the owners of second hand cars with paint bubbling, are you 100% sure the affected area has not been resprayed prior to you owning it?

After reading this http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I am beginning to wonder if perhaps you're not helping yourself with (repeated) comments like that?

I'm not in customer service thankfully, but if I was, I'd be thinking 'screw that guy, what's the point'...

In my case one small area would be a respray. 90% is NOT!

well someone there is getting their "paint bubbling" fixed

I guess it depends on the dealer, circumstances and how good they are at reporting it all to Aston to get it signed off

Im realistic. Bought the car in 2007 from a dealer, when it was 10 months old. a few years ago I noticed the paint issues and asked about the situation at a dealer I had used for service work. Told I might "be lucky" and get 50% of the re-paint cost covered ....on a 5 year old car...and their "official" quotes were double the costs at other bodyshops

Since then ive had it serviced outside of the dealer network and resigned myself to the fact that one day I will either have it resprayed myself or trade it in with a dealer for another car and then its their problem

I dont believe for one minute theres going to be any kind of official recall/admission for this as it would be commercial suicide for reasons mentioned earlier in this thread

Funny how everybody wants AM to dig deep and cough up yet nobody is prepared to put their hand in their pocket to try and prove the point as per my other thread
