Tyres cracking
Discussion
How many miles have you covered since you bought your car?
If I bought a car from a main dealer who had carried out a 140 pt check before signing it off as approved, then I'd expect tyres to last a lot more than a few months or a couple of thousand miles before expecting to replace them - unless of course they mentioned the condition of the tyres to you at the time of sale.

3k miles in 6 months sinse purchase.
nothing mentioned on tyres, i just hate kicking up a fuss
No need to kick up a fuss, just ask them nicely if they expect their customers to replace a set of tyres after 3k / 6 mths from purchase date after they had given the car a 140 check (or whatever they call it). If the tread had worn considerably due to hard driving then I would side with dealer but the way I understand this is that the tyres were very close to their expiry date and that's the cause of the cracking. AM do say that buying an approved used car from one of their franchised dealers is like buying a new one! If that were true then you wouldn't have to replace your tyres due to them being 6 or 7 year old.nothing mentioned on tyres, i just hate kicking up a fuss
do we know if the tyres definitely need replacing and on which authority? Does the tyre industry say so, the service dept or the MOT station? If they say the tyres are perfectly safe then I'm not sure if the dealer should replace them, however, having said this if there's any doubt as to their safety the least they should do is replace them at cost.

I would say so, unfortunately the car is at home so im unable to take some pictures for opinions, cracks down the centre of the treads and around the blocks, trying to find oficial litrature on the interbebz but failing.
Just spoke to Aston Customer services who confirmed what i thought, that the 140 point check only has stipulations relating to tread depth and not the ago of tyres

Did the car come with a fresh MoT? I ask because an unacceptable level of aging evidence, e.g. cracking and other visible deterioration from causes like excessive UV exposure, is likely to cause a 'fail' , even though tread depths are above the legal min.

but how do you prove the cracking hasn't happened in the last 6 months/3000 miles since? Andy

Regardless of whether the cracking has just appeared, do we know if the tyres in their present state (with cracking) definitely needs replacing and on whose authority? Even though we on this forum are very bright, the authority should come from either the tyre industry or MOT station.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
