I think the Rapide S estate and a Zagato roadster are the best bets.
yes

If they do make the Zag roadster it will be interesting to see if they stick to the coupe engine & transmission or go to the V12VS arrangement.

A proper AM hot hatch. To blast the pants off Golf GTi, Civic Type-r, etc etc.
Lexus and Mercedes now have equally impressive hatch backs.
Something like the AM Bertone Jet (based on the old Vanquish).

You do realise that this is actually a Vanquish with it's bum hatched...

It is in fact in EVERY way an Aston! Just perhaps not in some people's perception of an Aston...like the AM Bulldog. Who thinks of THAT when you say Aston...? But it most certainly IS an AM!

At least if they do a hatchback, the V8V owners become a big brother to a chavier car! biggrin

It reminds me of the 456 estate that was a one-off (made for the sultan of brunei i think). Hideous. it astons own version of a 5 series GT.

personal opinion only - nothing wrong with branching out to diffrent models, but there is a risk of alienating your core target audience. 4x4 is one thing - lambo/ferrari are looking at these for the next few years, but a hot hatch - even one based on a vanquish should be a no no. Hopefully they will see sense and make an all new Vantage.

A new vantage would be awesome.

As they couldn't sell many Coupe Zags as it was way overpriced for an ugly body re-skin, the only way I can see them selling a Roadster version would be to increase performance.

I really hope that there finally comes a 'whole new' Aston Martin. The DB9 and Rapide were just a facelifts. Hope to see a radical design change in Aston Martins design. Also some new technology could be used because some other brands (like Ferrari) are at the top of their game at the moment.

Really hope Aston Martin can make some changes.

Agree on the tech but the modern era Aston design is IMO near perfect and I like the evolution of design . I saw an 05 plate DB9 on the motorway over the weekend and it looked fantastic , modern and very classy.

It surely is 'near perfect' but my problem is that the differences between the models (V8, DB9, Rapide & Vanquish) are too small.

And according Autocar there is a new deal between Aston Martin and Ford about engines. I think that means no new engines for Aston Martin frown

Yeah, the hoped-for (by some) AMG supply never happened. At least they have the new ECU for the V12 making it quite a decent mill and able to churn out close to 600bhp.

Perhaps the V8 will get a charger or an increase to 5.0 scratchchin

I 'm glad someone else agreed with me that it was a shame that AMG were not chosen to supply engines. Surely no one can deny that Aston need more power and far better efficiency than their current power plants supply . It would be nice to think that the V8 could be taken out to 5ltr though at which point it would be banging on the V12's door. I still think that forced induction is the only way , in which case the engine could go to a lower capacity. As for the argument that there is not enough room, well they managed to fit 2 under the bonnet of the Rapide that was entered at the Nurburgring!. Molly's Polo GTI is a 1.4 but it belts out 180 BHP! it is supercharged and Turboed! That equates to 128 BHP per litre. If Aston could achieve that figure or near, that would mean a 4.5 litre engine with a turbo would be producing 575 BHP. In which case the performance would be up there with the best. The other plus being fuel consumption and Co2 emissions would be also improved. At low speeds could AM incorporate cylinder deactivation to further help the cause.

Apparently Dr.Bez is dead set against forced induction , no matter he is on his way out (apparently)

I'm with you Silverspeed, the DB9 basic shape will in my view, like the 911 has been for Porsche, be at the heart of Aston Martin shape for years to come. The lines are classy, difficult to imagine anything too radical in shape change could add anything significant to existing appeal. smile

yes I think a radical change would be a disaster for AM

I think you're right, this could be their E-type moment. Jaguar had D, E, XK-SS, XJ-13, all variations on a very nice theme. Eventually they changed it, but not for the better (inevitable really).
The DB9 and vantage are still beautiful well proportioned shapes and any changes too radical styling-wise could be a big problem. All IMO.

3, 1, 2, in that order. But your choice doesn't include DB9 or DBS. DB9 would be after DB5 and DBS would be before DB5.

And Rapide S would be dead last....
