Evening all.
I bought a 2005 DB9 a week or so ago from a well known Aston specialist in the Home Counties. I am delighted with the car and it is a joy to drive apart from one thing. I find the brakes a bit underwhelming. By that I mean I seem to really need to stand on them to get any stopping power and they just seem a bit unresponsive for a car of this calibre. As this is my first Aston I can't compare it to anything other than my Merc which has phenomenal brakes with the lightest of touches. The car came fully fettled and serviced by the dealer, including brakes, so I am wondering whether it's just an early DB9 "thing" or should I get them looked at?
Regards
Russ

I have a 2005 DB9 and the brakes are great, but you do need to give the pedal a strong push. A gentle prod on the pedal does not do much. Mine has been like this since I got it 2 1/2 years ago and it has had brake pad and fluid changes. So I think its normal. Very different to my MINI where the lightest touch on the pedal gives instant braking force.
If you are not getting good braking action when you press hard on the pedal then you might have a problem, but from your post that does not sound to be the case.

If it's any help I came from a Merc E350 to my DB9, when I first drove one (a 2005) I was also very underwelmed by the braking response, however once you're used to it they do get better in that you you can predict the amount of pressure to apply.
It's strange that I noticed a big difference in braking 'feel' between the earlier models and the MY09 onwards even though I don't think they specifically changed the braking. Perhaps just a byproduct of the damper upgrades?

Thanks guys, that puts my mind at ease. Seems as though you have exactly the same situation with your cars. The brakes are more than up to the job, but have a wee way to go to be up to the level of certain other cars. Interesting that the 09 cars seem to brake better with no major mods to the system.
Bought a 05 DB9 3 weeks or so ago and had exact same feelings as you did Russ,a wee bit surprised with the amount of pressure needed to stop it. For a car like it I was expecting a bit more stopping power . The brakes on my tractor are better !!! Just love the car though and should of had one ages ago !

Yep! Despite a heavy brake pedal, you just can't help loving everything about them. Only trouble I have is getting out of the drivers door after a blast because my stupid grin is too wide to fit through the gap!!!
Indeed. I had a lovely run back from Trinity last night over 40 odd miles. I was buzzing when I got back, unfortunately too buzzing apparently to get into bed and go to sleep quickly! Loving the car still.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
