TBH if I was armed with this thread before purchasing the car then I may have pushed for the dealer to replace the fronts on safety ground before I took delivery. I'm glad it's sorted, now I can attack the figures at VMAX without a sneaking doubt that my tyres may fail!
Some Dealers would agree with you. My Dealer strongly agrees that 3 year old tyres should be carefully inspected Jockman said:

Mine have never gone longer than 2 years on a pair of tyres so I wouldn't know
Having said that my front RE050's have 10.5k miles on them and I can feel the reduction in grip
Time for some PSS's me thinks.

Oh Blue One - it depends on your driving style
I'm with you 100%, matey.....for the opposite reason I'm a relatively conservative driver as you know but I was appalled at the cracks in my 3 to 3.5 year old tyres so agreed with the Dealer to change them. Perhaps the fact that I keep my car on the drive is a contributory factor??
I have no idea how people get 5 to 7 years out of a tyre
