It's Warranty and not Insurance?

They call it extended warranty, but it is insurance based............

Attitude to risk is what it boils down to.
I didn't take one out when mine reached three years, up to now cost me £299 for a new TPMS sensor and outside temperature sensor. I'll tell you in November whether I'm in or out of pocket!

Yours lasted a while Steve !!

Most people - myself included - get that replaced well within the original warranty smile

I decided to buy a 36 month policy with Warranty Direct Lite. At £333 pa I thought it was ok especially if something major went pop. It's also transferable and you get a bit of the premium back should you decide to cancel or the car gets nicked during the term.

People have kindly advised me that they have a bad reputation but if you're happy with the policy wording and happy to accept all the exclusions then there shouldn't be any complaints - they have to honour their contractual obligations and you have to accept what's not covered at the outset.

I accept it's no where near as good as the proper warranty but this one is considerably cheaper and provides some level of peace of mind. And yes it's a complete waste of money if it never breaks down or a great decision if the gearbox or head gasket goes tomorrow.

Why so negative ? Gaydon cars are better built year on year, regular servicing is a major factor in ensuring continued reliability. Also and this is the big one, our cars need using ! The people out there who do low mileage are the ones more likely to have problems. The engines will continue to beat well into 100,00 miles. I spoke to a chap the other day with a 3 year old DBS Volante . The car had done 4000 miles, not a stone chip in sight , totally immaculate . He came up with a fair old list of problems. Though he never revved it over 3000rpm!! Hardly surprising then.
To conclude I don't think that I would extend my warranty.

Took out warranty recently for the fourth year. Partly for peace of mind, but also I may well sell in the next 12 months so would help with that. Of course, had the inspection done and subsequently had a few minor bits sorted just before the end of year 3 as well.
If I've still got the car in a year I probably won't bother extending for a fifth year, though ...
