So what have you done with your Aston today?
Discussion
Took it (AMV8V) back to the supplying dealer for some post-purchase fettling (new rubber door seals (perished) and new headlamp washers (non-operational) with no hesitation; and a free clean! fantastic service! ), then sat in stop-start traffic on the way home on the M40/M42 for longer than was funny...then the powerfold mirrors wouldn't work once home, which I understand from a quick search on here can be a consequence of the diagnostic tool being plugged in? Will ask dealer.

Collected my DB9 in midnight blue from Rob at Supercar Detailing. Probably better now than when new.
Sounds like you are v happy - what did he suggest you use to maintain it? And do join the 2 bucket and lambswool mitt OCD club!

Looking good Phil - these midnight blue cars ping in the sun so lets have an outdoor shot!

Maintenance guidance from Rob was snow foam wash in a pressure washer, rinse off, 2 buckets of clean water with grit filters, dry off with towel (dabbing not rubbing) or with a leafblower. Apparently the fine leather chamois are no longer allowed to be used. Then apply more wax, always with a new applicator, never with old dried ones....Sounds like you are v happy - what did he suggest you use to maintain it? Picked up my car from Topaz detailing the other day which now looks absolutely incredible. Had the same advice about the non-use of chamois leathers and about investing in microfibre towels. Was also told to keep a bottle of bug and insect remover in the boot and apply immediately...
For anyone London based, Topaz is just so special not only for the quality of the job but what they have on the floor. I saw a veyron, multiple 918s, a P1, multiple 458 Speciales, a 599 Aperta, multiple 599 GTOs, a Miura, a Testorossa, a 964 RS and a 250 Lusso - but to name a few!

Left home at 12. Drove to Silverstone. Parked up. Watched the National Anthem and the F1 start, walked round the circuit. Very partisan crowd. Watched Hamilton cross the finish line as I headed out. Home by 3.15. Excellent traffic management compared to previous years (by me, that is).

Spot on advice. Should keep the swirls at bay ☺Ken Figenus said:

Spot on advice. Should keep the swirls at bay ?As for the leaf blower, get one of these:
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/metro-vac-...
This will blow the water out of the gaps around the tail lights and badges etc. Also, at this time of year, make sure you wash the car early in the morning or evening and in the shade if possible.

With the car having a wax and not a hard sealant, you will need to be more careful as a wax doesn't offer any resistance to swirls etc.

Thank you, Paddy, great advice. Maybe this is for a different thread, but what are the pros and cons of wax v. nano-type hard sealant finishes? As for the leaf blower, get one of these:

Fixed the poor radio reception and loss of sound from left side speaker well worth trying if poor radio/cd see thread below.. Cleaned the car inside and treated the leather, forgot how much there was in the car. To sunny to wash the car so do that later in the week. Took the cover off for the phone mic as no one can hear me and found the mic not fitted properly hopefully this improves the problem.

A wax looks nice, offers great beading and water sheeting, plus it doesn't get water spots as such. However, it doesnt offer any form of resistance to the swirls you just paid to have taken out, going back in again. A wax will last about 3-6 months, depending on usage.
A glass coat/ceramic type sealant will pretty much do what a wax does, but also help prevent the swirls going back in. Of course, nothing is full proof, but it certainly helps. It will also typically last well over a year, maybe 2. It is more at risk from water spotting, but this will be in the coating and can be removed. A sealant is also more expensive to apply, but worth the extra money. Also, you can still wax over a sealant if you enjoy doing that.
