Lightweight parts have arrived clap 3 lbs 2.4 oz (1.43 kg) all together... once installed, I should be at a ~75 kg weight reduction in my grey V8V.

Mine should be delivered back from the dealer today following MOT and service - heading down to Dartmoor for the weekend so hoping the weather holds out to have the roof down across the moors smile

On a side note, in between Tuesday and today, apparently the headlight washer cover has disappeared and kindly been quoted £432 for a replacement to be fitted. Now despite my instinct, i cannot prove it was definitely on the car when they collected it so I cannot complain. Does anyone know how easy they are to fit (I can order one on AstonMartinBits for £150) as I cannot understand it costing anywhere near that.

Loved that video. The Vank won albeit the Mustang was close. The Audi driver should have gone home in shame. LOL

Ha yes the RS6 driver hadn't realised that the car is rev limited when not in gear! Although I don't think he would have had much of a chance even if it wasn't!

It's a DBS btw not Vanquish smile There's a vid of it's sound vs. a Vanquish S on my channel too.

I have a long-running thread on 6speedonline called "Time to get nimble" that covers most of the weight loss. I also have info in my "Redpants Project Cars" thread on both my grey and red Vantages.

So far I've lost weight by changing out my wheels, tires, brake rotors, full exhaust, and battery, removing a few unnecessary items, and changing out parts for lighter versions. In a couple weeks I'll have my front bumper beam and grille replaced with the lightweight options from AMR (the race team, not the new brand...), along with swapping out the standard bonnet with that of the V12 Vantage, replacing the heavy chrome fender vent strakes with the carbon fiber ones, and getting rid of the air boxes.

I'm going to get more carbon fiber stuff in due time as well, plus swap out my seats for Recaro buckets. End goal is to reduce weight by 110-115 kg, without removing any creature comforts or amenities, aside from what the racing seats affect. Full glass, full Premium Audio, full nav, mostly full sound deadening...

I'm scheduling a test day with a local race shop that's very well regarded nationally. They'll be weighing both of my cars and then putting each on a rolling road. So I'll be able to see how much of a difference all the work I've put into my grey car has made. Driving it, the difference is extremely obvious - the grey car is just wild fun - but people love numbers and I want to know as well. I'll get HP and TQ ratings, dyno graphs (and overlaying them for direct comparison), total weights, and weight distributions. My red Vantage is pretty much factory, so I can use it as a baseline for accurate comparison between my heavily modified grey car and a standard, untouched 4.3L V8 Vantage. Should be a pretty fun day smile

Plenty of other stuff done to my car and still planned on top of all this, but that's the gist of it. So far so good, it's a completely different animal than a standard V8 Vantage, let alone a 4.3L cool

Have been looking at your AGM battery project Rich and saving so many kilos there looks like a no brainer for a car that will never be left in an airport car park for 2 weeks (and needing that reserve capacity)... I often think AM make such little effort to save the lbs - just the cast iron plus solid wood ski slope weighs a ton!

It's something I suggest to people that need to change their OEM battery. The cost is a bit high at first because you need both a battery and my adapter, but it makes changing the battery a 5-minute job if you do need to replace the AGM battery (remove the parcel shelf, disconnect the battery, remove two bolts that are easily accessible, and pull the lightweight battery out, install the new one in reverse). So you shed weight and cut down on labor time (and cost as well if you pay someone to do it for you).

Weight really does hold these cars back from being epic drivers' cars, but that's hard to explain to people until they've experienced it for themselves. So it's been an uphill battle lol.

My DBS won't start unless on a trickle charger any more than maybe 4-5 days! And that's a brand new battery fitted back in July!

That definitely shouldn't happen! Parasitic drain on the battery? Tracker maybe?

I've left mine for a couple weeks at a time and hand no issues starting it back up. One of the tests I've done on the AGM batteries I use is to purposely kill the battery (literally watched my headlights dim and die). Left the car to sit for another day, then jump-started it and drove it around for about 10 minutes, then let it sit overnight. Started fine the next day, no issues ever since, either smile

I used to leave my DBS (on original battery) for weeks without being connected to the charger.

Needs investigation.
