Hi Mikey,
So you have ASM2 now I assume? Does this mean that ASM3 is a software upgrade or is there more to it than that?
Cheers!

AM dropped the oil cooling circuit for ASM2 then reinstated it on ASM3
Pretty sure there is a software update
Maybe a ratio change in 7th to get the higher top end they quote

Lets hope that the oil cooling will ensure that gearbox is capable of not breaking with close on 600BHP then up from 430BHP........ Surprising that the components are not upgraded in any way?
The BR boys tell me ASM2 is good for it with some drive shaft changes. AM have not done alot to ASM2 to produce ASM3 so I'm comfortable mine will be fine mikey k said:

Sorry to ask this as I am still getting used to the BR magic. There are no ASM3 boxes in the hands of anyone but AM engineers so how could anyone know what has been changed?
The Graziano transaxle is only in the hands of AML engineers? On what do you base that assertion? The Aston Martin technical support website has a mountain of stuff for all Gaydon era cars. Full wiring diagrams, workshop manuals, equipment diagnostic tests, OBD II codes and blah blah.
How hard for someone who knows ASM 1 and ASM 2 to RTFM and see what it does? Or just look at one and reverse-engineer?
Just interested to understand where this comment comes from?
His question seems valid to me. No cars have been delivered anywhere with a SSIII gearbox yet. Having knowledge of the SS1 and SS2 doesn't equate to being able to reverse engineer the new box which is a new design with new software. It can only be (highly) educated guesses at this point.
P.S. there are no documents in Aston's tech info site on the V12VS or SSIII yet.

The BR boys were involved in ASM2s development on the Vantage S so know a fair bit about what other iterations are possible
From that it seems ASM3 has two obvious differences
1 reinstatement of the oil cooler from ASM1 that was removed in ASM2
2 a change in 7th gear ratio to achieve the higher top end
We cannot see any other differences

As the BR boys worked at AM developing everything up to and including the new Vanq, I guess they may have 1 or 2 friends there still that may share the less secret information with them . Obviously I am not suggesting that they know everything, but I would say that they know more than most . Just sayinmikey k said:

I was told by an Aston employee that had driven the car that the shift times were much quicker but he didn't know or didn't say how that was achieved. From that it seems ASM3 has two obvious differences

Aston quotes 70ms shift times for the V12VS in their website which I don't believe SSII can achieve. If so, there must be other differences. Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
