Having had two Astons and currently an XKR , which incidentally is a superb car, I am really disappointed by some of the comments on here, be it tongue in cheek or otherwise.

Doesn't show this forum in a good light and confirms many people's opinions on AM owners. That from someone who loved this place for years with every intent on returning.

Di, good to hear from you again. Surprised you've taken MG seriously, as you said you've been around long enough to know he likes taking the piss. How's the grandchild? When you getting back in an Aston?

Hi Neil, the boy is doing great thanks. A right bruiser, could probably wipe the floor with a wet wipe like MG.

My long term plan was to use the XF as transport for the boy when needed, but it just didn't hit the G spot. I looked at alternatives and the XKR convertible ticked the boxes, can take a child seat cos I tried it and was half the price of my V12V.

My goal is to get back into a V12V convertible in a year or so when our life settles down. And if available.

I do confess though, the XKR is a bloody good car. Maybe should have gone for the S.

Which all point to a lack of investment and cost cutting in attempt hold expenditure to tight budget which is understandable but this has been happening for some years. Although chasing rainbows with a product like the 177 where the money could have been better spent on improvements such as a decent gearbox, electronics etc.

You could have added "and wasting it on a racing programme".

I don’t agree with you but as the title say’s “Why we like Aston Martin”. For me and I know many more, cars such as the 1-77 and the racing programme are exactly why we do like Aston Martin.

Ed and Brett hi to both. Yes Ed it raised my spirits seeing you back in the fold. I hope the previous concerns are history now (you know what I refer to).

You say I post with a wagging finger but yours, Neil's and Brett's posts are exactly what this forum was about, ie looking out for each other and having a laugh.

Long may it continue.

Aren't you old enough to get a DB9 convertible instead of a Jag? biglaugh

I knew that would come up, but after the V12V I only yearn for a convertible version. I deliberately kept away from other options, and a brand new XKR to my spec for £68,000 was a no brainier. And gives me a chance to save for my dream.

Hey I'm a woman, stubborn but knows what she wants.

I don't think you should take a bit of light hearted banter to heart, it is refreshing to find people on here who don't worry about taking the rise out of themselves.
You missed the bit where I said I've been contributing to this forum for years and know many of the posters here as friends.

I just don't like the sniping of other marques. Sniffs more of what you find on other forums.

Hey, not going to lose any sleep over it.
Sorry your original said you were someone who loved the place and looked to return not that many of the posters were your friends, being new to this section I didn't realise that or the now obvious history.
Would agree about someone seriously snipping at other marques but have always found a bit of inter marque banter enjoyable, when you have had TVRs for 20 odd years you have to take snipping or you would just sell up laugh

Thought I recognised the name but wasn't sure, memory isn't what it used to be.

I guess overall I have always accepted that
Porsches are for girls
TVRs Travel very rarely
Lotuses Lots of trouble ussually serious
Mercs are for hairdressers
etc etc etc
were just a bit of banter and not to be taken too seriously.
The Jags referred to earlier are actually really good, XFR and XKR are exceptional, but different to to the AM.
I would imagine that the comment regarding looking down on xyz driving plebs could and is played out on all motoring forums at times, but anyone actually meaning it would be a very sad individual.
We all enjoy our cars from the seventeen year old trying to make his corsa look and sound better to the Veyron owner, isn't that why we participate in this type of forum.

Di, one thing is for sure since moving over to Jag ownership, you've lost your sense of humour......you need to get back into an Aston fast ! smile. Just for the record I have been considering a Diesel XJ as my main car as they are such damm good value second hand.......most of my posts are tongue in cheek, and the vast majority of people on this forum know that.......I thought you did !

Delighted to here all is going well with your grandchild......my 24 YO son announced to me 2 weeks ago that his long term girlfriend was pregnant, so looks like I might be joining your club

Dangle the worm, and you get a bite.

I was, like you Michael, just being mischievous. My comments were actually directed at the half witted sheep following your post with nothing useful to say other than a drooling gurning grin.

As you know I love cars, you would not believe the flack I had for getting an Evoque, but I'll tell you what I would have another in an instant. Fabulous car. Like I said previously, we have had massive expense recently mainly for our daughter so the Aston I want wasn't an option. The XKR is a very fine stop gap.

Many congrats on your forthcoming grandchild, ours is great as I'm sure yours will be too.

Oh and again the XF was brilliant but left me wanting. As a second car its fantastic.

Resisted the temptation to comment first time around, fragrant lady, but your dangling has now caught me.
I tread carefully as you are obviously well known and friends with many on this forum.
Curious to know who are these "half witted sheep" ,name and shame madam. smile

Steven, I have been on PH for over 10 years. Initially took stick as a female, driving predominately male perceived cars. Served my apprenticeship with TVR Tuscans and basically made a nuisance of myself until people accepted I wasn't going away.

I have always said that IMHO the Aston Forum is by far the best on PistonHeads, for friendship, good advice, culling the trolls, banter and taking the p*ss out of George and Jockman.

I guess my remarks last eve were mainly due to the fact that even though I dont post here as much, I didn't want to see the forum I love descending into derogatory remarks about other marques.

Other forums do that so well and are the worse for it.

Over the last few years, with the efforts of quite a few on here the PH Aston owners have become a close knit community, arranging meets, drive outs and generally getting together to enjoy what AM ownership is all about without the perceived but perhaps wrongly targeted AMOC influence. Rob and Molly, Mikey, Tony Hall, and probably many others have excelled, even I arranged local meets. Its part of the AM experience which I hope you will join in and enjoy.

Hey, maybe I might bump into you in the future when I return.

Di

I do hope so,it will be my pleasure to make your acquaintance.
I respect your comments on the subject under discussion.
I agree with you that derogatory remarks (unless said with tongue firmly in cheek)have no place on this forum.
Pacis erit vobiscum.
